"English Word and Grammar" is an initiative taken by me to enrich our
English in the word and in the grammar front.

WORD OF THE DAY:
lumpen \LUHM-puhn; LUM-puhn\

Of or relating to dispossessed and displaced individuals, especially
those who have lost social status.
If traditionally cricket has been the game of the elite, and football
strictly for the lumpen masses, all that's changed now.

WRONG TO CORRECT:

WRONG: My father-in-law is very nice -- they consider me to be their
daughter.'
CORRECT: My father-in-law is very nice -- he considers me to be his
daughter.

GRAMMAR: This is an incorrect direct translation from the Hindi
language, wherein an elderly/ respected person is sometimes referred
to in the plural to denote his/ her seniority.

put something about - circulate a story, rumour etc.
Rahul's love story! It's just a a rumour that someone has put about.
