"English Word and Grammar" is an initiative taken by me to enrich our
English in the word and in the grammar front.

WORD OF THE DAY:
egregious - adjective - used in negative perspective
(often of mistakes) extremely and noticeably bad.

It was an egregious error for a Chief Minister to show such ignorance
of his state politics.

WRONG TO CORRECT:

WRONG: I proposed my girlfriend after three years of friendship.

CORRECT: I proposed to my girlfriend after three years of friendship.

GRAMMAR: We usually propose something: I propose that we cancel
tommorrow's meeting.
But when you ask a girl to marry you, you propose 'to' her.

IDIOM/ Phrases

heartsink patient - is one who gives us long lecture about their
imaginary ailments; visit a doctor repeatedly and complain
persistently about their unidentifiable alments.

In my college days there were many friends who used to visit the
doctor's office with slightest ill health. So, they were heartsink
patient.
