Hi Dedy,
Sorry for the very late reply. Hopefully this email is still useful to you.
Unfortunately the deadline for NZDS applications for 2010 intake
closed in May. You could apply for the 2011 intake though if you
wanted to defer your studies.
Please find information on the scholarships and the application process below.
SCHOLARSHIP TYPES
Just to clarify, there are two types of NZDS scholarships. These are
the Open Category & Public Category. The information that I have here
in this email relates only to the NZDS OPEN Category Scholarship.
If you apply via the Open Category then you apply direct to the
university unless there is an NZAID Management Contractor which
handles the initial applications. The following are countries that
have an NZAID Management Contractor: Samoa, Laos, Cambodia, and some
Latin American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, El Salvador,
Guatemala, Paraguay, Uruguay). On the attachment 'Eligible Countries'
you will see the contact details for the Contractor and that is where
you can send your application (i.e. your NZAID & UNIVERSITY
application).
Under the Public Category you apply through your home government and
you will find more explanation on this category on the NZAID website
www.nzaid.govt.nz.
Please note that the OPEN category is for postgraduate study only.
Undergraduate study may be funded but the application must go through
the PUBLIC category process (i.e. applying to your home government).
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEADLINES
Closing dates for applicants wishing to study in 2011 are:
Non-Pacific countries: 1 May 2010 for PhD applicants / 15 May 2010 for
other postgraduate applications.
Pacific countries: 1 June 2010 for PhD applicants / 15 June 2010 for
other postgraduate applications.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
THE PROCESS
You will note from the information attached that developmental
relevance of your study is an important element of your application.
You may therefore be interested to see what NZAID's priorities are.
Check out http://www.nzaid.govt.nz/scholarships/nzds.html and on the
left hand panel of this page click on your region (e.g. Latin America,
Philippines, South Asia, Pacific). Under your particular region you
will find out what areas of development are important to NZAID.
Hopefully your study programme matches one of these. If it does not
but you can justify your study with a strong developmental relevance
essay (question 49 of the NZDS application) then you should still
consider applying. If you have stated your country of origin, then I
have attached the relevant information sheet.
Please take a look at the information attached and see if this
scholarship suits you. If so, please start your application as soon as
possible so you can send it in early allowing time to make changes if
these are recommended.
If you are applying for a PhD you should send your application in as
early as you can as PhD applications take much longer than other
applications to process.
In all cases you are required to print off the information that is
attached here and return by mail. No electronic applications are
accepted!
Remember that you need to submit both a Victoria University of
Wellington application form AND a NZ Development Scholarships
application.
Just a note on what happens when you send us your file:
1. Your application gets forwarded by us to the Victoria
International Admissions department for assessment for entrance to the
university.
2. If your application is given an unconditional offer from the
university, then it will be considered for scholarship and is sent to
NZAID for selection.
3. NZAID selects a number of applications for the scholarships
and informs us of the decision later in the year.

Subject: About Scholarship
Dear Sir or Madam
My name is Dedy Kurniawan. I am a teaching staff at English
Department at Universitas Jambi, one of state universities in
Indonesia. Having read the announcement in your website, I am
interested in applying for the NZAID scholarship in VUW. I would like
to get further information as well as an application form.
For your information, I have received a conditional offer letter from
VUW to study for a master degree in Applied LInguistics. At first, I
applied for an admission as a requirement for a scholarsip offered by
my home country. However, when the letter arrived, the scholarship
program had just closed. So, I cannot use the offer letter at least
for this year. I really hope that I can still continue my plan to
studyat VUW with NZAID.
Thank you for your attention and I am really looking forward to
hearing from you.
