Subject: D. App. Ling application
Dear Ahmad Ridha,
Thank you for your enquiry.
Doctor Applied Linguistics
The Doctor of Applied Linguistics (D AppLing) is a professional doctorate,
consisting of coursework, research training, on-line research seminars, and
the design and implementation of workplace-related research projects,
written up in the form of a dissertation. The D AppLing is intended for
Australian and overseas practitioners who work in language education. The
program provides advanced level academic study of a range of language
related issues through initial coursework, followed by a substantial
research component which is supervised and coordinated through a program of
web-based interaction. Please note that it is generally expected that
candidates will obtain an average grade of Credit in the coursework units in
order to proceed to the research component of the degree. It is not
necessary for candidates to submit a detailed research proposal at the
initial point of enrolment, and they will have the opportunity to refine
their research interests as they progress through the coursework units.
The dissertation must make a distinct contribution to the improvement of
professional practice or policy in the field of study. It is based on
projects undertaken in the candidate's workplace, and takes the form of a
number of research studies around a central theme, linked together by a
comprehensive and critical introduction and an integrative conclusion.
Dissertations may include relevant papers that have been published, accepted
or submitted for publication during the period of candidature. For further
