this image represent Edna's decision to move out of her hose into a new one down the street.
-Ben Tharrington
He allows her to be more affectionate, even allowing the man to kiss her hand. (128)
“ They're making you a little kinder than usual. But some way I feel as if they were wandering, as if they were not here with me.” (138)
She decides to visit her for support and for comfort. (131)
She has decided to move out of her house to a much smaller one. She wants to enjoy the feeling of freedom and independence. (132)
She plans to hold a grand dinner. (133)
She learns that he plans to return from Mexico very soon. (134)
Edna has forgotten about her desire for Alcee. When Robert returns, these two relationships shall surely collide and could be a blunder on her part. Also she has not thought about what her husband might do when he finds out about her moving out. (136)
They share a kiss and Edna is deeply shocked at herself. (139) However she felt pleasure kissing him, it was a bitter sweet feeling for her and her mind only gets more confused.(140)
She realizes she has become irresponsible and that she has lost herself out of desire. That she did not let love guide her but desire, she feels ashamed and shocked. (140)
She hastens her escape from the house by taking most of her stuff and transporting it to her new house. (141)
She declines his help after he did a few meager chores. He then asks her when he shall see her again. (142) She tells him about the dinner and how he is invited. He begs her to let him see her again before, to which she responds: “Not an instant sooner,” (143)
She appears to be more happy. She is in charge of her own life and no one else tells her what to do, this is what she enjoys most. She also appears to be more confidant.
Mr. and Mrs. Merriman, Mrs. Highcamp, Alcee, Mademoiselle Reisz, Monsieur Ratignolle; Victor Lebrun; Miss Mayblunt, and Gouvernail
Nothing was skipped out for the dinner. Making it overall a very nice dinner, with luxurious chairs replacing stiff ones; and the table sporting a pale yellow satin under strips of lace-work. (145) The author uses sensory images with sound and smell when she describes the candles and flowers. (145)
“The effect of the wine upon Victor was, to change his accustomed volubility into silence” (149) He also later on tries to sing to the dinner party but he is shut down quickly in his efforts by Edna herself. (150)
Despite her best intentions, the dinner party was not what Edna desired. She would of much rather been left to herself and enjoyed the quiet evening in solitude.

This image represents the kiss between Alcee and Edna. Edna
encourages the gesture and feels the power of desire and fire in her
heart. This is one of her first times feeling such a powerful
emotion. Later on she feels ashamed at the kiss, still having
feelings toward Robert.
