Essay 1.3
Since war began 3/19/03 American military
casualties in Iraq is officially 31368 people and the in combat we
estimated more than 100000 people got dead or injured. We knew that
our troops are currently killed at the strange place and killed by
totally strangers. Meanwhile we might asked ourselves that why our
own young soldiers have been died? Why do we use our own money to
support these wars, which are not really related to our own country?
And even our economics has been had serious problem? Why we had war
for such a long time? These are the biggest issue in America. The US
currently has about 139,000 troops in Iraq and 52,000 in Afghanistan,
with a further 16,000 to arrive by the end of this year. In the book
Bacevich point out that “with Americans, even in war time, refusing to
curb their appetites, the long war aggravates the economic
contradictions that continue to produce debt and dependency” (p.11 the
limits of power) Bacevich admonition that. However, before the war
begins we should think about the cost. first, For instance If we want
to go for grocery shopping before we purchased we should check product
price and then we decide that we can buy it or not. Bacevich tell us
that how the long war damaged our country, but, he didn’t give us
clear solution. We couldn’t just bring our troops back. Iraq and
Afghanistan’s are sick on these days they had political issue and
economic issue, moreover they don’t build their own country yet. We
had a huge war; we should have sort of responsibilities to help these
countries. We should take care about their safety until the country
build up. If we think about the cost we should stop the war before it
begins. This is pretty confused consequence issue. We all knew that
war in Iraq and Afghanistan should stop by now, because, we already
had too many sacrifice for other country. But, before we need to make
our decision we should think about the other country and we should
think about what are the benefits of after troops came back to
America.
Bacevich claims that “Is it not
better to think that seven years never happened as opposed to twenty
and with much more problems on our hands?” While Valkovic is fully
aware that our economy and many young lives are in danger but he
argues “Is America supposed to simply turn back on those countries and
act like past seven years never happened?” Valkovic argues that he
could not agree that taking out the troops from the war is an
outstanding idea unless Bacevich presents a clear solution. Bacevich’s
suggestion does not prepare for the next possible battle or disaster.
Bacevich adds that “American power has limits and is inadequate to the
ambitions to which hubris and sanctimony have give rise.” He predicts
that if our newly appointed Obama does not grasp this important point,
our economy could soon face worse situation. While I agree with his
parts of the arguments, I strongly feel that he is underestimating our
economy. It is essentially true that our economy is facing downfalls
and we need overcome these hardships but as one of the largest and
strongest economic power and aided by other country that support this
war, we will not confront a serious economic crisis within few years.
I disagree with Bacevich opnion “To preserve that which we value most
in the American way of life, therefore, requires modifying that way of
life, discriminating between things that are essential and those that
are not.” Taking troops out from the never-ending war does not seem
idealistic solution to overcome our economic crisis. The war began on
March 19th 2003, we officially sent 31368 people to Iraq and the in
combat we estimated more than 100000 people were dead or injured.
Americans are fully aware of the fact that our troops were killed at
the strange place and by totally strangers. Meanwhile, we might
question the costs and purposes of these young soldiers death. Why do
we use our own funds to support this war, which is not directly
related to our country in this serious economic crisis for a long
time? The United States currently sent about 139,000 troops in Iraq
and 52,000 in Afghanistan, with a further 16,000 to arrive by the end
of this year. In the book, Bacevich warns that “with Americans, even
in war time, refusing to curb their appetites, the long war aggravates
the economic contradictions that continue to produce debt and
dependency.” (The limits of power 11) However, before the war began we
should have first thought about the costs. For instance, if we were to
go for grocery shopping we should check product price and than we
decide that whether it is smart choice to choose the product or not.
Bacevich claims that meaningless costs of this on-going war but he
does not give us our clear solution. I strongly think that we cannot
just bring our troops back.
