A Bloody Work of Tragedy
The two characters Lucius and Titus from William Shakespeare's play
of
“Titus Andronicus are of the same family, Lucius being the only
surviving son of his Father-Titus. However they are both the head and
tail of the opposing sides of contrast to what they metaphorically
represent in terms of their differing terms of action, and their
fated
outcomes. Their actions are reflective of the contrasting lessons
that
they offer us,helping us to see the right versus wrong courses of
action in how one should face the dilemma of intervening and
responding to mass atrocities. In the book, Titus is the honorable
yet
overly piteous fool regarding his die-hard adherence to tradition
which proves to be disastrous and fatal, as it not only causes
unnecessary deaths of the innocent, but also the chain linked
reaction
of vengeance, blood lust, catastrophe, and ultimately his own demise.
Titus, metaphorically represents a lack of adaptability,
individualistic thinking, poor emotional  control and knowledge of
the
enemy's power and motives. Titus Andronicus, noble and stoic as he
may
be, is truly the “tragic hero” in the end of the play, as his
untimely
death did not help to resolve the senseless killings, or the avenge
the blood lustful nature in which his own lovely daughter, Lavinia
was
killed. In contrast, his only surviving son, Lucius although a blood
thirsty young man in the beginning of the play, metaphorically
represents a profound psychological transformation of character, and
ultimately becomes both the victorious winner and new leader of Rome,
restoring order and justice back into the picture. Lucius is
symbolically the redeemer, having faced adversity with his unorthodox
yet successful victory. Lucius Andronicus is metaphorical of the  new
ideas of thought, urgency and multilateral demeanor in which mass
atrocities must be dealt with in the U.S. Put simply Lucius is
remnant
of our need to react in an urgent and  timely responsive, along with
an a barrage of loop-proof and versatile, non-traditional means of
deployment. Successful intervention - if not the outright resolution
of a potential or in-progress genocide or mass murdering could be
dealt with on a regular basis worldwide.
In  Chapter five (Why they End) of his book “Worse than War”, Daniel
Goldhagen coincides with the council on Foreign Relations, being that
the United Nations did not react within a reasonable or even feasible
reaction time regarding the the exterminationist and eliminationist
onslaughts in Darfur. Goldhagen’s supportive themes of self-reliance
will be explained in much more thoroughness in the supporting
paragraphs below. Goldhagen believes that publicizing the facts about
eliminationist politics requires that media and politicians not only
discuss them more frequently, and also change how they do so. As such
Goldhagen's beliefs regarding a feasible anti murder and
eliminationism monetary program would automatically make perpetrators
aware that they (the perpetrators) aware that they are now a wanted
target for perpetrating wars against humanity, given that they have
crossed the boundaries of even considering mass murder and
elimination. Those already wanted for such offenses will now
automatically face under a more universally diverse variety of ethnic
backgrounds. Perhaps best of all, the rewards for the perpetrators
capture or possible death will pay the other party very handsome. Such
incentives are needed to ensure that the citizens of such particular
states will be actively conditioned to be become more enclined to be
alert of possible suspects which describe the possible perpetrators.
CFR Adjunct Senior Fellow Matthew C. Waxman postulates that US
strategy should include support for responsibility to protect. An idea
which states should a particular country is unwilling or unavailable
to carry its duties or responsibilities that ensure the protection of
it's own native citizens that the responsibilities will then be passed
onto the international community. T
 Lucius Andronicus, metaphorically speaking is synonymous with the
righteous   set of demeanor in which mass atrocities must be dealt
with. The U.S.  needs to react in an urgent and  timely response to
mass  atrocities.  As Lucius partakes in his own part of the mayhem
in
the play, in the end he becomes the new emperor, and namingly, a
symbol of hope in the minds of his people. In contrast to Titus
himself, Lucius was more rational, even in his slayings, unlike Titus
who killed in  the practice of his relinquished traditions. The very
mentality of the United States Government, and how they rely too much
upon failing traditions of law are reflective of a new need for us to
become aware of our surroundings again: to think in a new way.
Matthew
C. Waxman, (Intervention to stop Genocide and Mass Atrocities) notes
that “early preventative action” was critical to effective crisis
response. A feasible plan of intervention would make sure that
appropriate limits are placed on Security Council vetoes, as well as
proactive networking to encourage other like-minded individuals. The
United States should integrate ideas on atrocity prevention, and
lastly prepare to make sure that they can operate even in the most
alarming and urgent cases.
In conclusion, the two worlds in which the  metaphorical characters
of
Titus Andronicus live, and the flesh-and-blood world of reality to
which we are are living are limited to material substance, yet the
misuse of power, excessive obstinateness, and the inability to adapt
and change (thus metamorphoses) are indeed one and the same.

“ Although we know that there are numerous approaches and notions
which seek to find support for why mass murders begin, it is nearly
impossible, and certainly a waste of time to try to rule out one
absolute reason why someone would be able to kill hundreds of
thousands. The mind of a killer, serial killer, or mass murderer is
not something easily picked apart. “

Regarding the incorrect course of action taken for essay 2, I found
that “The Excorcist” provided the character needed to represent the
ineffective and useless train of thought that does anything but help
actually solve the problems of genocide and war-ridden nations. The
mother of the possessed girl Reagan, whose name is Chris in the movie
puts her possessed daughter through a series of unnecessary
psychiatric and medical treatments, which all prove to be
unsuccessful. Although Chris wants to genuinely help her daughter to
recover from her disturbing psychological and physical changes- she
doesn't stop to think or grasp the notion that her daughter is
actually appearing to become "possessed" by a demonic spirit.
Instead of actively seeking a cure by excorcism, the mother goes
against her own intuition, and obstinately tries to find a scientific
and rational explanation for her daughter's unearthly behaviors. This
correlates with Goldhagen's view in his belief that the perpetrators
motives and also mind can be both explained and methodically remedied
to understand why and how the corruption begins to start the motives
of mass murder and slaughter.

The right way to do things is to come up with a viable, feasible plan
which can be taken from idea into action immediately through ways that
have been proven to be successful by attacking the problem itself,
head on. One such character who I feel resonates well with this theme
of taking affirmative action which undoubtedly ends in gradual
improvement to an ominous situation is the self-loathing, troubled
teenager Donnie Darko, who is played by Jake Gyllenhall in the 2001
psychological thriller, Donnie Darko. Darko's “day-light
hallucinations” as they are called by his psychologist in the film
become known much later on the film to be clues as to what will happen
if he ignores the time-travel visions. In the end he sacrifices
himself by letting a jet engine crush him in his room- as the
ultimate solution to negate all of the bad things which will would
otherwise happen to his family, as well as the people whom he has
touched in his school and community.



Gretchen and Donnie grow closer. She is one of the few people he opens
up to about his time travel visions, and they discuss how they wish
they could travel back in time and prevent the bad things in their
lives from happening.

One such way is to educate the youth of a war torn country such as
Afghanistan. Although this does take some time and is a gradual
process, the end result will be that affirmative and progressive
change will take place, with the end result resonating with success.

In a stark contrast, positve examples of self initiative can even be
seen in terrorist attacks upon U.S. Soil. The case of Faisal Shahzah,
a master-mind in his own right. An accompliece in alliance with
Hakimullah Mahsud, the leader of the Paskistani Taliban, came up with
the ideo of the car bombing himself, a shocking but prime example of a
well-thought out multi-faced tactical plan. The enemy's active plan
of creative strategy tactivs involvs creating a commotion, diverting
attention away from the main area of traffic. U.S. Intelligence
investigators are doubtful that Mahsud would have taken the risk to
make use of even a willing American, volunteering execution of a
terrorist attack. Since Taliban leader Hakimullah Mahsud alleged visit
clashes with the fact that U.S. Drone strikes have drastically
intensified among the outskirts of the Afghan borders. These areas
include hot spots wichi include airstrikes targeting Mahsud himself.
Shazad has told inverstigators that he met with Mahsud before
attempting the car bombing in time square. (These bits and pieces give
insight to the notion that even if Mahsud wasn't personally involoved
in the attempted terror bombing, the support allegedly handed to
Gaisal Shadzad gives rise to evidence that the Pakistani Taliban has
broadened it's sights beyond targets in Pakistan.)

The Pakistani officials continue to dismiss the probability that
Shazad has connection to the Taliban, meanwhile defernding their
loyalty and cooperation in regards to the U.S intestigators sent to
Pakistan. While the U.S. And Pakistan are in a seemingly communicative
state of cooperative alliance, it is obvious that the union is very
superficial in nature. It is more than necessary to not only ensure
that the two nations keep their pact, but it is imperative that we
don't ever let our guard down. The U.S. Must not become soft, even to
those who claim to be within patriotism and loyalty in ties to us. As
with the case of Shadzah, who unwittingly is considedred a double-
agent, it is also a sad fact that he is also indeed an American
citizen.


Notes on essay 3 –
Find correlation between Tamora/Taliban and Lucius/ US military, us
nations
How this pertains to Afghanistan/Darfur (The United Council Treaty),
and what needs to be done about it.
Judge the value that Goldhagens's arguments (one the organization of
recent conflicts, pat 294, 331, 433, on what can be done to prevent
eliminationism in the future, see pate 532, 579) offer in
understanding the student's determined proper course of action
prepare in text references and reference page in APA style.
Journals should also include at least one APA format annotation.
