A NEW PLAN FOR DEALING WITH NON- VIOLENT CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Goldhagen’s view on the matter of preventing genocide is unforgiving,
unprejudiced and ruthless in nature – putting an end to the lives of
the perpetrators themselves, and making it clear that anyone who dares
to lend a hand in the matter shall they too shall become a wanted (and
dead) man. While Goldhagen has several points of argumentation in the
matter of how these matters should be dealt with, it is clear that he
see's the resolution in a non-pacifist manner. In short, do what it
takes, even by the means of taking the perpetrators' life, a small
price to pay in comparison to the countless lives it may save. In
comparison to this statement, Goldhagen deems the United Nations a
constant and ultimately ineffective at preventing genocide and mass
slaughter. An affluent writer, and persuasively amazing debater,
Goldhagen is unfortunately just that, his values lack both sufficient
research, and even more, key-preventive measures which could be both
feasible and immediately effective upon active operation of the plan.
On the other hand, upon some research with the idea of coming to a
both feasible, and overall effective nonviolent approach to conflict
resolution, I came upon the UNESCO ( United Nations Education Science
and Culture Organization) website, which over the years along with the
United Nations have developed a variety of standard- setting
implements, declarations, and action plans. One such program intels of
an initiative part plan program which has been taken into effect since
it's release in 2001, by means of Non-Violence Education, which has
also been widely accepted and acknowledged by the international
community. It is upon these findings that I shall refute Goldhagen's
idea that the United Nations has always been and still is ineffective
at coming to plans of genocide prevention merit, as well as providing
the proof and research necessary to support the idea that not only is
a nonviolent approach effective, but also that it is truly the only
means to do so in the new millennium.
First and foremostly, the following point by point refute sides with
my findings that indeed a non violent plan can and will work within
less than a decade from it's official launching.
The following quotes will ironically be comparing the similiarities in
both parties ideals regarding how the media, low cost solutions, and
motivational visions fueling their views, yet the grounds upon the
intricatcies of how and why these common views are worlds apart in the
aftermath.
Goldhagen quotes in chapter eleven of his book Worse Than War, what we
can do on page 519 makes it clear that “the media must do more to
create and sustain a robust anti-eliminationist discourse.” must
showcase the facts regarding mass murders, and the leaders behind
them.” The unesco plans to use negotiation and mediation as their non-
violent approach to seeing this problem eye to eye with the public,
and since the late 1990's have been taught at schools in the Chaco
Provice of Argentia. The second quote follows : Quote pg 527 - “ Lay
out the facts. Lay out the causes,. Lay out the (often low cost)
solutions (detailed below) in language that is precise, vivid, and
individual.” Goldhagen crys the need for a clear, relative, and
universal need for an affordable, just, and significant cause. The
united nations and unesco have created a basic framework for
promotingfor a culture of peace world-wide through a childs preschool-
to high school education. The just cause is for the development of a
holistic approach, based on participatory methods and taking into
account the various dimensions of education for a culture of peace
(peace and non violence, human rights, democracy, tolerance,
international, intercultural and inter-faith understanding, cultural
and linguistic diversity) is its main objective. Lastly, Goldhagen
states his view of offering substantial rewards for capture of
criminals. “for information leading to the arrest or conviction of the
culpable but also for killing them.” The division for the Promotionof
Qualtiy Educaiton, in particular by the section of UNESCO offers their
means of a plan to ensure that the education will turn out to be the
best plan in non violent terms.
