Where once were teeth, I now suck air
Bacteria caught mouth unaware.
Despite toothbrush, fluoride and floss
Poor mouth suffers another loss.
Where ivory keys stood straight and proud,
Tombstones lean in yellow shroud.
Those bottle tops that teeth defied
created gaps two inches wide.
That charming smile that won fair maid
now makes the meanest thug afraid.
Forewarned, forearmed, yes I was told
that teeth have far more worth than gold.
But that was then, when teeth were strong
and Dentists sang that same old song.
No joke, don't drink, don't smoke - Just think
A pointless exercise when in the pink.
From thirty-six to twenty four
Only two more dozen to go.
Twenty four? That's not too bad.
A dozen more than mum and dad
whose teeth each morning I would pass
smiling out from fizzing glass.
That damned dentist and his drill
Once again a hefty bill.
The greatest cost I've paid in teeth
A pricey sum for pain relief!
