Apparently Jeff passed away recently, according to another poster in
another Christian newsgroup, who saw it on social media.

RIP Jeff.

One of a kind certainly. I enjoyed debating with him and always hoped a
chink of light would shine through.

Yes, I vehemently disagreed with his over-rigid (IMO) stance on several
matters, but for most of the time I nevertheless liked him, for some
strange reason! We had a few phone conversations over the years, but I
never actually met him in person.

He lived about 45 miles from where I used to live, and agreed to meet up
at a motorway service station between us where, bible on table, we had
an interesting discussion (I can't remember the subject) Like you, I
liked him as a person but strongly disagreed with his understanding of
the bible.

It would be quite funny though if we got to the pearly gates and Peter
said you have wrong beliefs so I can't let you in, and Jeff is stood
behind him wagging his finger, saying I told you so!

This should, of course, have been cross posted to at least 6 other newsgroups

I don't think Jeff believed in pearly gates - certainly not at any
initial resurrection - oft stated by him to be on earth

If your religion leads you to exclude people, to look for what is
wrong with people, or to point out what you believe are other people’s
sins, you are doing it wrong.

I never really did work out his stance on this. I know he was hoping to
be alive at the first resurrection and be part of the 144,000 who would
smite the earth and bring it under (Jeff's version of) Godly rule, but
then he seemed to waver between a new heaven and new earth and people
continuing on this Earth at the second resurrection.
