Dear Piers
Now if a tv set has a design, which it does, and it also has a designer, maybe the owl, which seems to have a pretty intricate system which gives it life and a function in this world, also has a designer. The evolution answer will have to claim that within the laws of this universe there seems to be some sort of impulse which pushes creatures towards a complex system of life, which also gives birth to thinking and emotion. There must be some sort of law of life within the evolution view. Something must be going on. With a theistic view, it's easy enough to attribute the answer to a designer, the same way a TV has a designer, thus the owl has a designer. It's an easier answer. A lot of the debate is that there can't be a designer because we've debunked the bible. Ok. Throw away the bible. Now look at the question of a designer. I, personally, don't need the bible for my faith in God or the history of humanity being about 6000 years old, and likelihood that as the population of mankind grows each year that it goes back to an original source. So if God didn't design the owl, the evolutionary impulse of life, how wonderful you are. I'll still tick the God and Bible box though personally on my census form.
