Who?
I am not sure if I am doing a survey or conduction an interview for
this part of the project. If I conduct an interview I would be
probably interview a teacher that works in a bilingual education
program or I could also interview, if possible, the principal of the
program. If I do a survey, I would more than likely ask the students
of the bilingual program to help me out. For either the interview or
the survey I know that I am going to have to ask the principal for
permission so that I do not get in trouble or anything of that sort.
The principal and all the teachers that work in the bilingual program
have some type of degree. Most of them probably have bachelor degrees
or even a master's degree. i am not sure if the principal has a Ph. D.
or not. Since I work in a bilingual education program I could just E-
mail or contact the teachers and the principal in person. I have
contact with all of them in a daily basis since I work with them.

What?
If I conduct I would find out the number of parents that are either
against or pro bilingual education. This will help me with the funding
part of my topic sentence. My topic sentence is that if more people
support bilingual education then it will get more funding and will not
seize to exist. So, if the survey tells me that the majority of the
parents support bilingual education, then I could say that that is
going to help the bilingual program here in Hammond, Indiana.
If I conduct an interview then I could ask the principal about the
issues and difficulties that she phases when it comes to applying for
federal funding. I could also ask her about her opinion of the
program. If I interview the teachers I could ask them about their
opinion of the program or whether they know what is required of them
so that the program gets funding.
Where?
My primary research will take place here in Hammond, Indiana at the
Area Career Center’s Bilingual Education Program.
When?
I am not sure about the exact date when I will be conducting my
research, but since I work in a bilingual program from Monday to
Friday I could probably conduct my research sometime next month
(November). I will probably have to talk to get permission from the
principal and since she is always busy that part will probably not be
easy.
Why?
I have decided that the two primary research types that I have in mind
(interview/survey) are the most appropriate in this case since they’ll
be a little easier for me to do since I work at a bilingual program
and I have access to both the students and the teachers in there.
Also, both are more relevant and can provide me with more useful and
meaningful information than a site observation for example. A site
observation would not help my research in any aspect, while an
interview or a survey indubitably will.
How?
The first thing that I am going to do as soon as possible is contact
the principal Mrs. Harrington to see if she authorizes me to conduct
my primary research. After I get her permission I am going to ask her
and some of the teachers if they are willing to cooperate with me or
not. If not, I am going to ask the students if they could assist me
with my assignment. Depending on who agrees to help me, then that’ll
determine whether I do an interview or a survey for as my primary
research. Once I get permission I will start writing and coming up
with questions for the survey/interview. Then I will find out the time
of greater convenience to conduct the interview/survey so that I do
not intervene with any school activities, and so that I can do my job
as I always do.
