1) Climatologists, Meteorologists, and Social Scientists

2) To inform people on the debate of global warming and its effects.

3) It applies to ethos by being written by Christopher Joyce, a
correspondent for the Science Desk at NPR.
It applies to logos by Joyce being confident about his claim,
because he has researched the subject so much.
It applies to pathos by the way he presented the topic with his
tone and confidence.

4) Ethos-He chooses people who are well educated on the topic and
credible. Logos-The sources that he used pertained to his topic which
can effect how people listen to it. Pathos- Because his sources were
credible, it makes people think about it more.

5) Because of his confident tone and knowledgeable sources the
audience might look at the subject seriously.

Your group will be asked to review either the Indiana Jones or
climate
change podcast.

When you are told which one, do the following:

Identify the audience- archeologists themselves, students of
archeology and people interested in becoming archeologists.

Identify the purpose –to inform the difference between what Indiana
Jones is supposed to be like than what real archeologists are.

Listen for the tone and intonation of the speaker in the podcast. How
does the use of tone and intonation apply to ethos, logos, and
pathos?
The intonation of her voice made her sound more credible and
persuasive so that people will take her seriously. The clips from the
movie bring nostalgic pleasure to those who watched the movie as a
kid.

Listen for any sources to which the speaker made reference. How did
the sources apply to ethos, logos, and pathos.
They reference George Lucas, the producer for the movies of Indiana
Jones and Creamer to contrast the portrayal of Indiana Jones. They
are both logically trying to persuade people to understand what a true
archeologist is.

How does the tone, intonation and sources used affect the audience
(relate these aspects to ethos, logos, and pathos). If you don’t
think
these aspects had an effect in this particular podcast, explain why.

The tone wasn’t dreary, kind of upbeat so it makes people more prone
to want to listen to the podcast. The sources included helped
persuade the listener to believe what was trying to be explained
because it added credibility.

Identify the audience: -
future students who are going into field of archeology, general
audience who are fans of Indiana jones movie series.
Identify the purpose
- to inform about the reality of archeologists.
Listen for the tone and intonation of the speaker in the podcast. How
does the use of tone and intonation apply to ethos, logos, and pathos?
- This podcast typically was in a serious tone and was in a
informative tone with some sarcasm. It seemed to be in a tone that
made it sound factual and not just only an opinion on the subject.
Speaker didn’t have a range of emotion in his tone.
Listen for any sources to which the speaker made reference. How did
the sources apply to ethos, logos, and pathos?
- He used a real archeologist and her students as a source to make his
information valid. He also included clips from the movie that tied
into what Indiana Jones was about. He was able to give a clear image
of both sides.
How does the tone, intonation and sources used affect the audience
(relate these aspects to ethos, logos, and pathos). If you don’t think
these aspects had an effect in this particular podcast, explain why.
- We were able to see what point was being made by the speaker. He
clearly was able to express both sides of the story. And the clips
gave us insight into the movie as well as the people he used in the
podcast to explain their point of view.

Podcast Discussion

1. Audience: The audience would include archeologists, people
interested in archeology, and probably who care about Indiana Jones.

2. Purpose: The purpose of the Indiana Jones podcast is to inform the
people how Indiana Jones has affected or influenced Archeology.

3. Tone and Intonation: The tone and the intonation of the podcast are
both very informative and help make the podcast more interesting. The
podcast is somewhat boring and the tone in monotonous, but it in fact
provides the listener with interesting information. The tone and the
intonation appeals to ethos—the tone of the podcast provides and adds
credibility to the podcast. The people in the podcast use a very
convincing tone that makes the audience believe what they are saying.
Logos is also found in the podcast. Overall the effective supporting
evidence is used. Also, in some instances the podcast gets very
emotionally appealing—jokes are thrown in there, and I believe that
appeals to the element of pathos. I’m not sure though of the full
effect of the podcast regarding pathos.

4. Tone, intonation and sources: The tone and the tone of the podcast
are both effective. Some interviews are used as sources and I believe
that adds credibility to the claim being made in the podcast. What the
interviewees have to say makes the podcast more effective and credible
(in my opinion) because primary sources are the best.

Indiana Jones Podcast
Identify the audience: People who are interested in archaeology and
fans of Indiana Jones
Identify the purpose: The purpose of this podcast was to expose how
the Indiana Jones movies glorify the field of archeology.

Ethos: (credibility) The reporter in this podcast interviewed a
credible archaeologist that was on location in Peru.
Logos: (logical) Both the reporter and the archeologist that was
interviewed were both logical on the field of archeology and the
Indiana Jones franchise of movies.
Pathos: (emotional) The reporter used a tone that was matter of fact
and delivered the news neutrally while the archaeologist that was
interviewed had a sarcastic tone when speaking about Indiana Jones.
The sources that the speaker mentioned were George Lucas, the creator
of the Indiana Jones character as well as the archeologist Creamer.
The tone in this podcast affects the audience because it makes us
distrust the spin Hollywood puts on professions and how much they
glorify them.

Identify the audience:
The audience is everyone who lives on the planet earth .

Identify the purpose:
The purpose of the podcast is to bring attention to the rise of global
warming and how global warming is becoming a huge factor in the world.

Listen for the tone and intonation of the speaker in the podcast. How
does the use of tone and intonation apply to ethos, logos, and
pathos?:
The podcast uses Pathos by taking bits of their sources and putting
them in the podcast for the listener to hear first-hand about what
their source is saying.
Ethos is used by the tone of the speakers’ voice and his sincerity.
Logos is used by explaining to scientists that in order to get people
to listen to what they have to say they have to come up with a better
way of saying it, rather than constantly throwing scientific facts at
people.

Listen for any sources to which the speaker made reference. How did
the sources apply to ethos, logos, and pathos:
Certain sources voices applied to ethos because the tone of their
voice was more demanding.
The sources uses logos by explain what certain people have to do in
order to get others to listen about global warming.

How does the tone, intonation and sources used affect the audience
(relate these aspects to ethos, logos, and pathos). If you don’t think
these aspects had an effect in this particular podcast, explain why.
The ethos part of the podcast is the sincerity in the speakers voice,
which shows that he is concerned about the topic at hand, and so
everyone else needs to be also.
Logos is used well in this podcast because the speakers switches over
to a different source, so the listener can hear exactly what the
speakers was trying to explain.

1. Audience: people interested in archeology, Indiana Jones movie
buffs, people interested in studying archeology/ history.
2. Purpose: to contrast the reality of archeology against the
Hollywood version glamorized by Indiana Jones.
3. He was very monotone to show that he was an unbiased speaker.
4. He lets the speakers speak and then expands on what they say.
5. He tries to make his voice very passive so that his sources and
information will be the source of influence.
