Hi Team!
Hope your summer's have been restorative and/or productive. I contemplated holding a meeting in the next couple weeks, but opted for a scrum as I know most of you are still on summer schedules. I glanced through the Google Docs directory and see that some of you have started writing there. I was hoping to hear from everyone this round to gauge who needs help (or inspiration :)). I know that writing one chapter can seem daunting, but my inspiration for you is to just pick a subsection that looks easy and start writing. I have found just sitting down and starting is half the battle.
  1. Completed: Full rough draft of Ch 2 (Vectors and Other Forces)
  2. To do: Chapter still needs a fair bit of polishing plus
    1. examples,
    2. validation on Latex equations,
    3. complete GeoGebra interactives & figures, and
    4. cross referencing with Jacob's Adaptive Map content to see if there are any ideas I could weave in.
    5. Work on graphics standards (editing/building off of this document I've drafted)
  3. Getting in my way: Classes start for us in 2 weeks and I'm working through planning my semester. As usually I'm making some changes so those always take a bit of time, but I plan to block out a least 4 hours each week to work on this project.

Hi Dan,

I hope everyone had a good summer. I made a start on chapter 4 early in the summer, but then lost my summer to other things.

1. Completed. Just some of the early writing on moments and couples.
2. To do. Write the rest of the chapter, including force-couple systems and all of the 3D stuff. Add examples, practice problems, and graphics. Convert everything to the proper format. Basically, about 90% of the work.
3. Getting in my way. I submitted our program's ABET self-study a few weeks ago and was hoping to have more time after that. In reality it just led to more work coordinating with the Program Evaluator and the faculty to get ready for the on-campus visit at the end of September. Also chaired a search committee for 2 new instructors and classes start next week so I need to spend time preparing for that. There's nothing really stopping me from making progress on the OER, but there always seems to be something that takes priority.

Best,
James

1.  Completed.  I made a major push in July to get a solid draft for my chapter.  I also put together some appendixes, one containing some basic math info, and the other with properties of steel sections.  My work is on my personal website https://ryefamily.org/textbook  Since then I’ve been working on other things, but continue to plug away at the last couple of examples I want to do.
2.  To do.  Polish my chapter, and help others get their work into pretext format when they’re ready.   Work with Dan to get the engineeringstatics.org set up.
3.  In my way.  School starts again in two weeks, so after that my available time will be more limited.
