Subject: Registration Drop-box in Hinjewadi IT Sector
To: DyDEO Pune <dyde...@gmail.com>

Dear madam,

As per your SMS yesterday and meeting with collector sir last week, I believe
you are setting up drop-box in Hinjewadi IT area. Can you please confirm that ?

Please see email thread below, there are 10k employees in one company itself!
count across companies would be much more (and believe me more than 70% of
them are not registered voters).

Please arrange the drop-box there as soon as possible.
There are plenty of professionals, plus our volunteers, in that area ready to help you.

regards,
deepak

Hi Vikram & All,

I’ve got 15-20 employees who want to be a part of this campaign as a volunteer. In addition to that nearly 100-150 employees promised to spread this awareness to their society members.

Please, share your views/ideas on this so that we can get more and more people registered. Also, we have contacted Cognizant, Tech M HR peoples however still need to check with them.

Hi... This is great news. In case drop boxes are being set up, i have 2 questions. 1) can we collect these forms and drop them. 2) can such boxes be arranged to be set up at offices like Infosys. We have like 10k employees in pune and everyone i talked to wants this to be done. I am sure my H R will be more than happy to support this too.
If you can please find this out... If it works it will become very easy.
Thanks very much

Please read Wankhede madam's reply below.
This is very positive step by Election Commission to make registration easier,
even if its limited to city area.

We as volunteers will continue effort of visiting societies and connecting
chairmen/citizens to local BLOs.

Dear Wankhede Madam,

After yesterdays press release, one of the news papers (Sakal) happened to publish
my phone no along with EC Helpline no. Since morning 7:30 am to 6:30 pm today,
there were more than 150 unique calls from citizens (86 I could respond + 92 missed
and some retried, thats why total is not 86+92).

I would like to share the experience of citizens and our views on that with the motive
that you could escalate it among your colleagues and rectify the source of huge frustration
among citizens with Election Commission.

1. 99% people had the same query/problem as where to go to collect/submit forms
and whom to call if they don't find anybody there.

EC should have published Booth Addresses and BLOs phone nos on 1st of Oct itself.
Even till today only 10 assembly areas BLO List has come, that too after 9 days of wait.

In absence of this important information, even NGO volunteers are helpless to help citizens.
At the most we tell to go to nearby school or give ERO/AERO phone no, but most of the time nobody
is there in school. ERO/AEROs don't respond phone and some have no idea where are the booths in
that area. (Yes, many have called me back to tell this). I am going to send you all these 150+ phone
nos so that EC can have chance to talk to them.

We can understand that EC has no dedicated huge staff and has to work at the mercy of teaching
staff who reluctantly take role of BLOs, however, if necessary information can be provided in right time,
NGOs and Citizens can fill the gap to a large extent.

2. Very Low Profile, that too very late, Publicity of the Drive by EC

There was a news in Sakal 3 days back that there is very low response  from Citizens to the drive.
That was mostly because there was no publicity of the drive before that day at all. Even in TOI I saw
EC's ad today only!! The fact that, more than 150 readers of the same newspaper Sakal called in span
of 11 hours after seeing NGOs press release is proof that citizens are serious and responsive about
   getting registered in electoral roll.

3. Existing voters have no way YET to verify if their names exist or got deleted!

EC Pune was suppose to publish current voters list by 1st of Oct at their website so that
citizens can submit their objection (if name got deleted etc) by 21st of Oct as per schedule
    of EC.
10 days already passed, and citizens have no way to access the voters list. sigh!

Considering (1), (2) and (3), EC Pune must extend the registration drive by a month.

4. Many complained they have filled the form-6 before also and nothing happened

We are advising citizens to keep the receipt of form submission and file RTI in
January if ones name does not appear in electoral roll
. It will be advisable to convey
to all BLOs and EROs that flood of RTI requests should be expected if forms are lost or
not submitted by BLOs to EROs or if EROs don't convey the reason of rejection if
    they decide to reject.

5. There are many under-privileged citizens who don't have ID proof card and have just
address proof (e.g. electricity bill, or address in bank-passbook)

They asked how come people from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal are given voters
card easily and we Indians have to face so many problems to be a registered voter ?

6. Some said their name or address is wrong in Voters Card

We hope EC will hiring quality Data Entry Operators this time to avoid such problems

Thank you for reading this with patience.
We hope and expect that EC Pune will consider these issues with utmost urgency and
take necessary steps to address them.

regards,
deepak, on behalf of Sajag Nagrik Manch, IAC and Parivartan
