Greetings from Pattani Archives,
Our vision of the Pattani Archives project, running under the aegis of Sir Prabhashankar Pattani Open Window Charitable Trust(SPPOWCT), is to engage in preserving the histories of the region for public engagement and thereby add to the cultural development of the place and its people.
Over the last 3-4 years, through our community engagement initiatives, we have brought forth several micro-narratives from the region in the form of events, plays, and exhibitions. And now we are preparing to bring the Film Kavi Kant, the first of its kind documentary work on the life and works of Kavi Kant, directed by Jay Kholia and produced by Purvalaap Foundation. The film is an outcome of months of rigorous research across cities of Gujarat. It intertwines Kavi Kant’s poetry with narratives and historical evidence from diverse sources and published works.
Jay Kholia visited Pattani Archives in August 2024 as part of his research on Kavi Kant. During his visit, he explored the archive’s library and identified several publications essential to his study. His visit reaffirmed the Pattani Archives’ role as a vital resource for supporting critical research, creative inquiry, and storytelling rooted in historical collections.
Jay Kholia, a post-graduate in Physics, is a filmmaker, graphic designer, and amateur astronomer based in Surat, Gujarat. He has made several ‘Prayoga’ short films while learning and exploring the world of cinema under the guidance of renowned film theorist Amrit Gangar. His short films have been officially selected and screened at several international film festivals - both in India and abroad (Kerala, Kolkata, Madurai, Chennai, Thailand, Germany, Italy, and Croatia).
The Purvalaap Foundation is dedicated to preserving and celebrating the literary, philosophical, and cultural legacy of visionary poet-philosopher Kavi Kant (Manishankar Ratnaji Bhatt). Through research, translation, and creative collaboration, we illuminate his timeless work for new generations. Its mission is to foster dialogue between cultures, faiths, and eras through the lens of poetry and thought. It supports scholarship that explores the intersections of literature, faith, identity, and belonging. Their work spans publications, symposia, film, and educational initiatives - anchored in respect for truth and compassion.
Pattani Archives (SPPOWCT) in collaboration with Purvalaap Foundation, is organising a screening of this film on 28th November, Friday, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Auditorium, Natraj Research Centre and Training College, Kaliyabid, Bhavnagar.
