The U.S. cannot sit idly by if we want to present ourselves as a great
nation. The Guantanamo bay should all together be given back to Cuba
if the U.S. wants to reinvent themselves as a great nation.

This is Dianna Brown posting outline for Essay 3:
What did I do?
Researched hunger, malnutrition & starvation due to civil war in sudan
and its' relativity to the Shakespeare play Cressida & Troilus and the
book Blood rites by Barbara Ehrenreich.

Why did you do what you did?
Reviewed phamplet of Doctors Without Borders/MSF and photos and
literature touched my heart. Thought that I needed to know more about
this war.

What did you learn?
Doctors Without Borders is a non-governmental organization that aids
victims of war, famine and man made disasters. There are initiatives
and bills in both Congress and the House of Representatives that
support aid in Sudan and peace agreements to start and end to the
civil war.

What else could be done?
With ample financial assistance backing non governmental organizations
like Doctors Without Borders, UNICEF, and the Red Cross could make
great progress in an attempt to end what is now a silent killer in
wars.

What did you do?
-political turmoil led to underdevelopment throughout Zimbabwe.
-Fast spreading cholera in Zimbabwe.
-correct way: it's better to ask for help and work with others to plan
out. character: Ulysses-the plan he creates to get
the Greeks involved
-wrong way: blame it on the other people and blame the economy.
Character: Agamemnon- just thinking that it's up to the gods
Why did you do what you did?
-too many reports in the Middle East and the Central America
-the information in the Asia is too vague
-African issue is often about HIV/AIDS, but this one is about cholera
and it's recent.
What did you learn?
-BBC/CNN/ other independent news source- had up-to-date info.
-in all of the reports, almost 3000 Zimbabwe civilians die each day/
foreign aid coming, but not enough(economic crisis)
What else could be done?
-six month project: build hospitals and bring trained doctors/ create
sanitation bureau to keep the country clean.
-support school club and non profit organization that send aid to
Africa.

- Current Conflict between Rwanda and Congo caused by Congolese
Tutsi Gen. Laurent Nkunda

- Right way = Rwanda withdraw troops; ask Congo to deport Hutu rebels

- Wrong way = Rwanda keep sending support to Congo rebels cause
unrest/ civil war; Congo keep accuse Rwanda of trying to invade

Why did you do what you did?
- Congo rich in mineral resources; if secure peaceful and prosperous
would domino affect to other African countries

What did you learn?
- surface conflict = about animosity between Hutu and Tutsi

OUTLINE FOR FINAL PRESENTATION
Edward G

What I Did

• Topic: The Darfur

• Opinion: Brutal Assaults By Khartoum on Sudanese Border on Genocide
are Indefensible

• Drought in Early 1980s festered disputes between Africans and Arabs

• In 2003 Darfuri Rebels Attacked Sudanese Aircraft and personnel
Hoping for Better Representation in Khartoum

• Khartoum Enlisted Janjaweed Militias to Do “Dirty Work”

• Conflict Has Unfortunately Become a Type of “Ethic Cleansing” by
Arab Militia Against African Christians

• Over Two Million Refugees Several Hundred Thousand Murdered

Why I Did It

• Conflict Largely Ignored Until Recently

• World Community Should Stand on the Side of Innocent People

What I Learned

• Tried to Find Sources From Across the Political Spectrum Including
World Conflicts Today, Washington Post, United Nations, Bills in the
House of Representatives

• Easy to Characterize as Simply an Arab Muslim/African Christian
Struggle

• Did Not Realize That Arab and Africans Traditionally Shared a Common
Culture and commerce in the Darfur Region

• An Example of How Economic Grievances Can Morph Into an Idealistic,
Conflagration With an Entire Generation Left Homeless

What Else Can Be Done?

• Don’t Let the Conflict Slip Off the Media Radar

• Continue to Keep the U.N. Actively and Strongly Involved in Helping
to End the Murderous Attacks on Innocent People

• World Community Must Be Involved, Particularly China One Sudan’s
Biggest Oil Customers
