All,

Our efforts in support of the Green Button Initiative received some significant recognition in California last week (July 17, 18). Specifically, UCAIug held a F2F meeting day on its efforts to establish an ITCA to support Green Button Testing and Certification (much more about that further down), and, the Green Button community under the auspices of the Office of Science and Technology Policy, the Council on Environmental Quality, and the Silicon Valley Leadership Group held a “Developer’s Day” conference event with more than 200 participants attending (SRO and people had to be turned away because the room wasn’t large enough!). A key highlight of the Developer Day was repeated voiced need for testing and certification to make the Green Button ecosystem hum!

Also at the conference, two new Presidential Innovation Fellows were introduced dedicated to Green Button that many of you know well – John Teeter working with NIST, and, Matt Theall working with DOE. These leaders will be helping to drive through encouragement the adoption of Green Button nationally and worldwide this coming year.

On the day before the Developer Day, Kay Clinard (UCAIug) and Barbara Judge (UL) hosted a meeting designed to coalesce the work being done in the GB ITCA task force and OpenADE of UCAIug to stand up a testing and certification capability for Green Button. Work in these task forces has been in progress during the past many months and substantial progress has been made on producing the organization, process, and technology to stand up this capability.

At that meeting, we devised the attached document which represents an action plan that will result in a “dry run” of testing and certification for Green Button Download My Data in September. What you should see in the action items and deliverables tables are actions by various parties to the effort and expected due dates. Several of these are targeted at the OpenADE task force. Let me note that rather than new work, the OpenADE task force is being asked to transform the documentation we have already created in the GreenButtonTestPlan.docx and GreenButtonTestCases.xlsm documents to produce a Test Procedure, PICS form, Test Data Sheet, & Certificate of conformance.

The intent of this activity is to create all the documentation needed to perform an ITCA quality test and to certify one or more Data Custodian offerings of Green Button Download My Data. All participants in the dry run are volunteers playing the various roles in the process (see the “Process Flow Chart” and the “UCAIug ITCA Organizational Chart” in the attached document).

Dave Mollerstuen and I are inviting you to volunteer to help us construct and review these deliverables in time for the September dry run. We will prepare some initial concepts and descriptions and we will begin having weekly meetings to pursue this goal starting Tuesday August 6 at our usual meeting time of 3:00P EDT (1:00P MDT, 2:00P CDT, 12:00P PDT – meeting details to be forthcoming).

I believe virtually all the needed specific information is in the two documents we have already produced so we are looking for folks who can help pick this information out to populate the needed documentation. I am hoping that at least a few of you can let me or Dave know that you can put a little time into doing this with us. For the others, please help in reviewing the work to make it the highest quality possible.

Cheers,

Dr. Martin J. Burns, Hypertek Inc. for NIST

Good day folks,

Our meeting was successful, and we made a lot of progress…Our thanks to Barbara Judge and her fantastic support team for taking such good care of us!  Thanks to Marty for getting it all on “paper”.

For those who were not able to be with us,  please read the attached GBITCA Dry Run Plan attached and the Project plan for the dry run document….You may find you have been tagged to do several tasks…perhaps in the critical path.  Remember  if you are not there, you can’t say NO J

Please update your progress each Friday, so Fred does not have to chase after you.

Kindest regards…kc
