Sector Strategies has long been a theme in workforce development circles, and especially so today in the energy sector. Many great training programs result, but are you as pleased with the hiring results?  Too often our ability to train in mass in a niche segments overwhelms the industry’s ability to absorb the talent and ignores other training and placement opportunities. Frankly, more training doesn’t lead to more jobs. Often missing in the discussion is the employer and an understanding of the demand-side needs. In a dynamic and rapidly changing industry segment, this means using every technique possible to maintain a constant dialogue with the employers. Forsaking this leads to oversupply and missed opportunities, which has been a historic problem in solar PV and becoming a problem in the energy efficiency sector as it develops.
