Hi all,
I saw other postings about REDD so I'm hoping someone familiar with the dataset can help me with a couple of questions:
(a) In at least one of the houses (and maybe more of them) there are three channels for the washer_dryer. One of these channels has a max reading of 20W. Is it an error or do they have three measurement devices (1 on the washer and 2 on the dryer etc)?
(b) Are the 2(3) channels for the washer_dryer measuring one device each or some combination of the two?

Thanks,
Unmesh

Hi Unmesh,

My best guess for what's happening is that the two adjacent washer_dryer circuits are measuring two legs of the same device (probably a washing machine), while the separate washer_dryer circuit is measuring a different appliance (potentially a spin dryer if the energy consumption is low). However, in house 1, circuit 19 contributes very little energy relative to circuit 20. I did a test quite a while ago where I subtracted all individual circuits from the aggregate, and the residual consumption looked a lot like circuit 20, so my best guess is that the meter on circuit 19 wasn't working correctly. To correct for this, I replaced circuit 19's data with a duplicate of circuit 20.

This is all guess work though!

Hi Oliver,
Sorry about the delay. I had to get on a flight right after I posted. Thanks for your reply. Your reasoning makes sense to me. I need to think a little bit more about what effect duplicating circuit 20 will have for my evaluation but it seems like a reasonable idea.

Thanks again,
Unmesh
