Spam on the NILM Wiki

Dear Energy Disaggregation folks,

The front page of the NILM wiki has been receiving quite a lot of spam recently.  We are aware of the issue and are trying to find a way to prevent spam attacks.

If the front page has been replaced by spam then go to the "history" tab and view the last version of the page that I saved.  If you are signed in to the wiki then you can also "revert" spam edits so that you fix the front page for everyone :)

The other pages of the wiki don't appear to be affected by spam; so if you bookmark the page(s) that you're interested in then you can go directly to the page of interest.

Dear Energy Disaggregation mailing list,

The NILM wiki continues to attract spam.  We're considering moving the wiki from a self-hosted mediawiki instance to github, in the hopes that github is much less likely to attract spam.  Does anyone have any objections or better ideas!?

I guess there are two ways we could run the NILM Wiki on GitHub:

1. As a github wiki
• Advantages: really easy for everyone.  Contributors only need a github ID.  They can edit the wiki just like they edit a MediaWiki wiki (i.e. just through the web interface)
  
• Disadvantages: not very flexible
2. As a "normal" repository containing text files.  This could either be rendered directly on GitHub; or turned into a static website using, for example, Jekyll & github pages. 
• Advantages: flexible; themable
  
• Disadvantages: more hassle: requires users to fork the repository, make changes, make a pull request.  Then the wiki administrators must accept the pull request.

Hi Stephen,

It is being updated as we speak and should be back up and running by the end of the week on a standard site while we also test out the github in parallel. Just needed to come up with a better strategy than the wiki!
