Ifollowed your instructions and the special offers can be removed, but I will be charged $20 to do so because I agreed to special offers and received a $20 discount when purchasing my kindle. Is there any way around this? Thanks!

It worked! I called customer service and the ads were removed immediately. No payment necessary. They had to find my current Kindle since I have had several iterations. Now I can get to my book without having to traverse that annoying step of exiting the advertisement! Thanks for your advice.

I see something about de-registering, so perhaps it is not so difficult, though when I try to do it, parental control is blocking me, also it is blocking me from connecting to the Internet with Wi-Fi.

This is a bug in the kindle. Don't reset your device people!!! Just go onto your amazon account and "manage your device" and deregister it. That resets the parental control password. Go to the device and hit resync. When thats done go into the settings gear, my account, and register it using your amazon account info. It will be as before, nothing lost. I just got off the chat with a helpful amazon tech rep who gave me this information.

If you forget your password, you can deregister your Kindle Fire from Manage Your Kindle (www.amazon.com/manageyourkindle) to reset the parental controls password. Deregistering your Kindle Fire will also allow you to keep any downloaded items on your device. Once your Kindle Fire has been deregistered, tap Sync from the Quick Settings menu on your device, tap More, then select My Account to reregister your device.

If you're unable to deregister your Kindle Fire from Manage Your Kindle, you'll need to reset your device to the default factory settings to regain access. If you've added any personal documents, music, videos, or other content to your Kindle Fire, ensure it's been backed up prior to resetting your device. Resetting your Kindle Fire to the default factory settings will delete all content on your device and you'll need to register it again before downloading items from your Amazon account.

You could just try de-registering your Kindle from your Amazon-Account and you may get rid of the password. Note that that WILL delete all Amazon content (like books, apps and so on) but it should leave other things untouched (like your own photos, music or other stuff you have sideloaded to your device). You would de-register it at Manage Your Devices on Amazon. After re-registering you should be able to download all your content from Amazon again, including books, apps and so on.

If you can't seem to find the answer to this question on one of Amazon's FAQ sites and/or the in the instruction manual, back up your data and do a factory reset. It's also the quickest way than rather run around in circles, but be careful, that data could have some stuff that you can't afford to lose (like my "Flappy Bird" high score).

My son's Kindle Fire HD 2014 had the same problem with the parental controls password. Somehow the Kindle went offline and I couldn't turn WiFi on and the password was not working. I de-registered it directly on the Kindle since it was not online. Then I registered it again and everything is back on his Kindle. I was concerned he was going to lose the level he was on on all his games but he didn't!

I stopped being able to remove DRM on kindle books using epubor on a mac about 15 months ago. DRM removal for kobo books is much easier, and they read pretty well on Kindle once converted to the right format.

Or you can use an OCR tool and create your own file with the text. You can use your phone with the free Google Lens App for example. Just scan some pages of text copy it into a note and then import it in a lingq lesson.

I know it is not optimal but better than nothing. If you want to automate that, you can do it on PC with an OCR tool of your choice and a macro generator. I did that with some spanish kindle books back than.

@bstein I wish I had read your comment sooner. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out Calibre, and then it kept crashing. Finally, I bought Epubor Ultimate two days ago, and that has worked great. I am also using a Mac.

I recommend Epubor to anyone less tech savvy, like myself, than many people on here. Yes, there is cost, but I will get plenty of use out of it, and it will transform my learning experience. So it is definitely worth it.

I am now trying to figure out how to edit the lessons, etc., to make the book format on LingQ mirror the original chapters, if that is possible. I will inquire about that in a separate post, although that issue is more cosmetic than anything. Simply getting DRM-protected content into LingQ was the big battle.

In order to completely delete content from your Kindle or Kindle app, you must log in to Amazon through a web browser, then go to Manage your content and devices. Each item will have an Actions button to the right of it; one of the options is to Delete from Library. After you have deleted the item from your Kindle library, it should be removed once your Kindle for PC app syncs. You can also try opening the Kindle for PC app, finding the book in question, and right clicking on the title. Choose Remove from Device from the menu that pops up.

If the item still persists in the Kindle for PC app, you can manually delete the book from your computer by finding the folder that contains your Kindle books. It should be named My Kindle Contents or similar, and may be located in your documents folder. The Kindle app will tell you where the files are stored if you look in the Preferences menu under Content Folder.

If that doesn't work, there may be some hidden files that aren't getting deleted completely. Amazon may be able to tell you where to look for these.

To clarify this, there was a statement that indicated that deregistering a Kindle would remove the content. As mentioned in the post, I tested that, and the content was not removed. Amazon also changed the language.

I just tried to deregister a Kindle Fire (earlier edition) to keep children from accessing/purchasing. When it completed the deregister, all the content was gone. I had to register and redownload it all. Just FYI.

Failing that, you can also contact Oreilly or even the author and include a receipt. Oreilly is a great publisher, and they would probably be able to send you via email the file to you if you asked nicely.

Quality control on Oreilly ebooks is pretty high. I doubt there's a formatting issue. The file is 5mb, not too big. But it might be worthwhile trying to view it on a Kindle app on a tablet or on Kindle for PC Desktop.

Occasionally I have an issue downloading certain ebooks. Often it's a matter of just deleting the first version you downloading and retrying. Sometimes it gets stuck, but I'm generally able to download everything. Hope this helps!

I had the same issue and I called the customer service. They said before I had bought the book and since I also had a kindle unlimited account, the book was just being borrowed. But my subscription ended and I could not borrow it anymore. The issue got fixed once I hard restarted the kindle as per the instructions from the customer service representative.

Once the lending period for a Kindle Book ends, it is automatically returned to your library. Expired Kindle Books still appear on your Kindle device or reading app but can't be opened. You can remove them from your Kindle device or reading app using these steps:

A significant advantage of eBook reading device is the capacity, even with a basic version of Kindle, you can hold thousands of eBooks with this handy size device. But every coin has two sides. As you keep adding more and more ebooks to your device, storage space will run out soon. What's worse, you need to spend a lot of time finding the book you want to read, it is high time that you should delete / remove kindle books.

Kindle delete permanently vs remove from device: In general, the difference between "Delete" and "Remove" is that "remove" only deleted the history for the book(we can retain them in the cloud for later), while "Delete" will delete books from the MYCD library.

Books are still stored on Amazon cloud though they were removed from your device. So it's possible to redownload them onto your device again. just click on "MY LIBRARY" on the home page. Then choose "ALL" button in the top-right corner, next select the book you wish to redownload.

Of course you can also re-download your Kindle books through your Amazon account. From "Manager your Content and Device" tab click the "Actions" button, select the "Deliver to Default Device or Others" option.

If you want to delete books from Kindle devices in batch, make sure the Kindle firmware is 5.9.2.0.1 or above version. You can automatically update software firmware to 5.9.2.0.1 version or above on your Kindle device or download Firmware 5.9.2.0.1 manually from Amazon website.Notice: All the methods above just delete the books from your device. If you want to delete them completely, you need to remove them from Kindle Cloud.

To remove content from your Kindle app which installed on Android device, just find the book you want to remove from your Kindle app for Android, tap on the book cover that you want to delete for 2 seconds, then choose "Remove from device".
