Rubble is with Mayor Goodway and her uncle, Otis Goodway, who's a little hard of hearing, as he attempts to search for gold in the creek. None of them notice Mayor Humdinger watching from behind a tree after hearing the word "gold" from Uncle Otis. However, Otis's equipment is all worn out and rusted through, leaving him unable to do any prospecting. Luckily, his niece knows just who to call for help and contacts Ryder.

At the Lookout, the pups are playing tug-of-war when they realize that the other end of the toy was caught on the branch of a small tree. Ryder soon gets the call from Mayor Goodway asking for help and summons the pups. In the rush, Marshall gets a bird's nest on his head as the bird falls asleep. Marshall tries not wake it up, but trips over a stuffed toy as he enters the elevator. As a result, the bird wakes up and flies off, but soon returns to retrieve its nest from Marshall's head. Afterwards, the pups head topside to get their orders from Ryder.

Ryder needs Chase to provide security for the claim, and Rocky to convert his truck's forklift to a gold-panning machine to help out. With that, the team deploys to meet up with Mayor Goodway, and Mayor Humdinger has to hide to avoid being spotted as the team arrive at the claim. With new equipment for Uncle Otis, the team start their search for gold. Soon enough, just as Chickaletta is about to eat what she believes to be corn, Otis catches the shiny rock and reveals it to be a gold nugget. As the team find more, Humdinger and Cat Chase, watching from the tree, decide to steal the Goodways' gold for themselves, and Humdinger summons the Kitten Catastrophe Crew. However, he ends up falling out of the tree and is discovered by Ryder. Luckily, he concocts the ruse that he wants to help, and Ryder buys it.

During the search, once the pile is large enough, Humdinger uses a rock candy ring as a diversion, saying it's a diamond, allowing the Catastrophe Crew to load all the gold into a trailer attached to their carrier and allow them to escape, so by the time Otis discovers they've been tricked, Humdinger is already making his getaway.

Ryder, Rubble, Chase, and Rocky give pursuit, following him all the way back to their hideout in Foggy Bottom. Thankfully, in their haste to get into their hideout, Humdinger and the kittens forgot bring the gold inside. By the time he realizes it, the PAW Patrol had taken it back.

Back in Adventure Bay, Mayor Goodway presents the new statue of Chickaletta made from all the gold and thanks Ryder for the assistance. Ryder reminds her to call for them if they help, but Otis thinks he says "belt" and tugs at his suspenders, causing them to come loose and leave his pants around his ankles, much to everyone's embarrassment.

Reclamation began in 1872 when Amos Mecartney arrived. Mecartney enjoyed great success in the gold fields. The California and British Columbia gold rushes brought his wealth to Alameda in 1872. He purchased 300 Bay Farm Island acres at $1 an acre. He then hired some 100 Chinese (some sources say Japanese) laborers to build the drainage ditches that transformed marshland to farmland.

Other settlers in the 1870s included George Anderson, Adrian Hamlin, J.E. Ellis, Daniel Swett, Thomas Miranda, and John Titlow. Anderson and Miranda were brothers, Portuguese emigrants from the Azores. Rather than keeping the family name, Anderson decided to take the last name of captain of the ship they traveled on. The brothers were the first of a growing community of Portuguese who farmed here. By the 1890s, the list included the Duarte, Flores, de Souza, and Silva families.

Mecartney offered to build a school on Bay Farm if the Alameda school trustees would provide a teacher. The trustees accepted his offer. In December 1882, construction began on a one-room school house on the northern end of the upland. The school opened the following February.

Italian families began to cultivate Bay Farm in earnest at the beginning of the 20th century. The Italian newcomers included Thomas and Vittorio Lagorio; Giacomo and Domenico Lavagetto; Domingo Parodi; Carlo Cotella; Antonio Ferro; and Antone, Andrew, and Joe Ratto.

Martinez is a city of 36,663 residents encompassing 12.47 square miles and a rich history dating back before California achieved statehood. It features 17 parks, a pool recognized in 2012 as "Best Aquatic Facility" by the California Park and Recreation Society District 3, and plenty of open space. The waterfront features a marina and hiking trails, world class bocce ball courts and newly-renovated baseball and softball fields.

Don Ygnacio Martinez, the early 19th century commandante of the Presidio of San Francisco, received a 17,000-acre land grant from the Mexican government in 1824 that first brought him to the Alhambra Valley. The City was named after Martinez in 1849.

From a trading post in 1849 to incorporation in 1876, Martinez was a gold rush and shipping boomtown. Early settlers of the county bought, sold, and shipped their goods here. One of them created the popular drink known as the "Martini".

Martinez was declared the County Seat of Contra Costa in 1850 and incorporated in 1876. It is the administrative center for 19 cities, providing services such as the county legislature, county courthouse, sheriff's department headquarters, hall of records, jail and correctional facility, etc.

The local newspaper began operation in 1858 and by 1860 Martinez was the shipping port for grain from Diablo to the Livermore Valley. Railroads arrived in 1877. The Central Pacific, with the tie to the transcontinental line, came in 1879 with the world's largest ferry boat, transporting trains across the Strait to Port Costa.

Martinez is home to the John Muir National Historic site. For more information on John Muir and his legacy, visit: John Muir Association John Muir a Brief Biography Sierra Club John Muir Trail The John Muir Way The National Parks: America's Best Idea People - John Muir (PBS)
