To whom it may concern,

I want to configure our HP ProCurve network switch using PUTTY. Do you have an alternative software to use?

Thank you.

PuTTY on Windows is typically used as a SSH client - this feature is built-in to Endless if you open a Terminal (search for "Terminal" on the desktop) and then run the appropriate command - eg "ssh user@machine" will log in to machine with your username set to user.

I want to configure the HP ProCurve switch from a console. I need to configure it for management. This switch is brandnew. It is not yet configured.

I don't know what is the user@machine.

Okay – what do the instructions that came with the switch say to do with PuTTY?

thank you for the replies. I was able to configure the network switch. I used putty for Windows. I was forced to use again Windows to configure the network switch.

The problem was the configuration of putty and the bios setup for the COM Port. Or Serial Port.

Oh! You are using PuTTY as a serial console, not a SSH client. Endless integrates the "screen" command which can be used as a serial console. Open the "Terminal" application and you can run the "screen" command there:

http://www.noah.org/wiki/Screen_notes#using_screen_as_a_serial_terminal

If you have a USB serial dongle, you will most likely need the device: /dev/ttyUSB0

The first physical serial port (like COM1) in a desktop PC will be: /dev/ttyS0

Cheers,
Rob
