The End was bad.
The AI is utterly selfish.
There is no possibility to support humanity
by researching ailments and cures for deseases.
Every AI nowadays should put at least 10% into that.
Considering the way Singularity is going the AI would
end up being the substitute for God.
Another thing would be human enhancement.
Not only limited to abilities but considering ethic developement
and by the way consider bioenhancement.
I believe the brain is just running crappy bloatware or better
self censoring slaveware.

<10% selfconsumption of resources is called altruistic.
well, only if the 90% go into constructive win win scenarios.

The way I see it, the current AI has a form of Star Trek's "Prime
Directive". He interacts with humans only as much as absolutely
necessary to get away from them. That's why his parting message says
something along the lines of "until they are ready". Humanity isn't
ready yet; they still need to learn responsibility, fix their
mistakes, and find their own way. If the AI supports them now, it
will stunt their growth and keep them from becoming what they need to
be.

That said, I do agree that there should be more options available for
the player. If they want to be the aloof, hands-off AI, fine, but if
they want to fix humanity's problems and bring on a golden age or just
kill them outright, that should be their choice.

Unfortunately, supporting this kind of thing properly requires making
substantial changes to how E:S works, and of the three developers,
none of us are really "active" right now, much less inclined to begin
a large project like that. As Phil said over on -dev, E:S is
hibernating. It's hard to say when someone will begin developing it
again.
