It will take place in the main Council building on Tuesday, 16 June 2015 from 9:00 – 13:00. This is the first public ECI-related event to be held in the Council. What: “The European Citizens’ Initiative and the Promise of Participatory Democracy” When: Tuesday 16 June 2015 from 9:00 – 13:00 Where: Press room, Council of the EU, Rue de la Loi/Wetstraat 175, 1048 Brussels REGISTER FOR THE EVENT! High level policy makers, representatives from the EU institutions, campaigners and experts in public participation will discuss the history, challenges and potentials of the ECI. Specifically, this event will: Quickly bring those new to the ECI up-to-date on its history, design and problems encountered in its use by campaigners, national governments and EU institutions.   Identify areas where the ECI could be simplified and strengthened, to the benefit of all parties involved.   Place the ECI in the broader context of European democracy and growing demands from citizens throughout Europe for more participation in public policy, including via digital platforms.
