Dear volunteer
Further to my recent correspondence, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for offering to volunteer for the forthcoming Parkinson’s Unity Walk, which will take place at Federation Square on Sunday 28 August 2011. Participant registration is at a record high and we are extremely excited! We hope to break last year’s attendance and have over 2,500 people there! This means that you and all our volunteers are a vital component, more than ever before, to the day’s success.
In preparation for this event, we would like to invite you to attend a pre-event briefing next week:
Date - Saturday 20 August 2011
Time - 3.00pm (for approximately 1 hour)
Address - Parkinson’s Victoria offices: 8b Park Road, Cheltenham 3192
Why – First and foremost, this will be an ideal opportunity for us to all meet each other. Secondly, experience tells us it can become hectic on the morning of Unity Walk and this year, we would like to provide the chance to go through the job descriptions in detail with you, provide hand outs and answer any questions you may have.
Attendance at this pre-event briefing is not compulsory and we appreciate it may be difficult for some of you to get there. However, it will certainly be beneficial and is an integral component of the volunteer process. We’ll also provide afternoon tea!
We will provide full briefing notes detailing everything you need to know about Parkinson’s Unity Walk 2011. Nobody has yet been assigned a role; this will be done after the pre event briefing, when we have recruited enough helpers and have a better idea of how to disperse the volunteers we have. You will be emailed your allocated role during that week - and further notes about your specific job description will be sent to you – eg, course marshal, registration, merchandise etc. Please keep an eye out for this email.
Of course I will be there to look after all our volunteers on the day of Unity Walk, so please don’t worry too much if you feel you’ve missed anything! We want to be sure you enjoy the experience of volunteering with Parkinson’s Victoria and above all, have fun, knowing you are providing invaluable assistance towards a great cause: you are helping make a difference to those in our community living with Parkinson’s!
