Getting the "USB access denied" error message means a hard drive or USB port failure has occurred, preventing you from accessing the USB device. One of the potential symptoms of such a device is that it will not open. Another symptom is that the device may be returning to an error message that states, "Location is not accessible, Access is denied."

Error messages such as "Location or drive is not accessible" are common to storage devices. They often signify that the USB (storage) device has restricted read or write permission. Depending on other symptoms, your "USB access denied" message may be "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable," "The parameter is incorrect," "The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable," etc.

although I have added USB device ID to trusted, when user install usb drive into computer the blocking message pops up as if it is blocked by device control. But there is any reading and writing issue because I have added device to trusted device list. I want to understand that why the message being appeared even it has been added to trusted device list. MOre over Kaspersky wont let device to be encrypted by bitlocker. when I deleted Kaspersky from computer, removable drive encrypted successfully. but when KES enabled ACCESS denied message appears when I try to encrypt removable drive

Actually my user account has been given full access for all removable drive. So when I insert flash drive I can read and read without any problem. but don't understand why message pops up warning me I have no read write access.

please you first answer my first question that I posted 2 month ago then you can answer this one. I don't understand how Kaspersky support engineer work. Kaspersky official and community are really awful. please take this message into consideration. as I observe you always ask for policy configuration then no answer )))

just bought a new HP ProBook 450 G1... running Windows 7...I inserted a USB flash drive to copy some some files from my other compute, and got the Windows Messgae "You don't currently have access to open this folder", then I press the "continue" button, and get the message "You have been denied permission to access this folder", and it says "To gain access to this folder you will need to use the security tab". I click on the "security tab" link, but there is not any "security tab" in the properties menu for the flash drive. My logon is the administrator and has all accesses checked'. I also tried other flash drives and a USB harddrive, and access was denied on all of them. Not sure if this is a Windows 7 issue or an issue with the pre-loaded HP software, which I will probably unistall, but waiting to see if you have an easy fix for this ?

It was the pre-installed "HP Device Manager" causing the denied access. For some reason, at first, the proper ballon messages were not being disaplayed, but later after some restarts, I noticed the message. So I uninstalled it, and I now have access to the external drives... sure don't need that hassle of entering my password everytime I attach a flash driver or external hard drive (and it only giving me access for 15 minutes). Maybe there's was a way to change the parameters within the HP Device Manager... but ain't nobody got time for that ! Smiley Happy

New HP Probook 470 G5 windows 10 Pro I had the exact same issue, and just uninstalled "HP Device Access Manager" and all of my USB drives worked just fine! 8GB USB thumb drive, 500GB Toshiba old laptop disk, 1TB Seagate FreeAgent Desk.

First of all, have you checked within Device Manager to see if there are any visible problems with your USB controller? If not, when you finally have the opportunity to power-cycle your machine that may alleviate the problem. USB ports can occasionally be a bit temperamental, and performing a full shutdown on the machine for a few minutes can often help alleviate the problem.

When a USB drive failure occurs, it could easily block you from accessing the saved data and could be a big issue. I mean, imagine there are crucial files that you need to access from the USB through your Windows 10/11 computer, only for them to be inaccessible because of an "Access Denied"error! It can be frustrating, right? Well, if you are in this situation, relax, as, in this article, we will give you a few quick fixes and a few methods to resolve this issue once and for all. So, keep reading:

As we have already mentioned, when a USB access denied error occurs, many files in the USB drive are rendered inaccessible, and since you would like to recover them, we strongly suggest that you try iMyFone D-Back Windows data recovery software. This software will help you recover deleted and restore any corrupted or formatted files on your storage device with just a few clicks. Here is a step-by-step process on how to recover your files;

Using the Windows button, open your start screen. Then go to the Search bar and type "Gpedit. msc" > then click Edit Group Policy. Select Administrative Templates > expand the System folder > open the Removable Storage Access folder.

Lastly, you will see three options; Removable Disks: Deny execute access, Removable Disks: Deny read access, and Removable Disks: Deny write access, where you open each of these options and click Disable. This will remove any restrictions from the drive.

This error occurs when you enable Microsoft Defender's Controlled Folder Access option and block Rufus from taking but excluding the drive's write access. And if you don't have the Microsoft program, check out your other antivirus programs.

One way you can bypass an access denied error is by using the iMyFone D-Back data recovery tool to recover the data that has been rendered inaccessible. You see, with the software, you just need to scan and restore all the files in the USB drive without having to fix the error itself.

As you can see, a USB access denied error can be frustrating, but it is easy to fix. You can either choose to fix the problem so that your drive is good and the data therein is accessible, or you can recover the data using iMyFone D-back recovery software from the USB without having to go through all the trouble of fixing it. The software is easy to use and capable of recovering lost data in any format. Download and install it on your device today!

I can manipulate my USB flash memory with diskpart utility of Windows (I have full access to it) but when I want to create a bootable usb by using Win32 Disk Imager or rufus, both of them fails with an access denied error.

To check and disable it in Windows 10, go to the Windows Settings (The cog wheel in the Start Menu), then to "Updates and Security", "Windows Security" (on the left), "Virus protection". Then at the bottom, there is "Ransomware protection". Click on it, then turn off "Controlled folder access". (This of course leaves your files vulnerable, should there be undetected Ransomware on your machine, but you have a backup anyway, don't you?)

I encountered a similar problem while installing ParrotOs. However, things worked out after using the default Rufus rather than the portable version. The portable version causes such issues sometimes.

The problem is that some security solutions consider that USB Flash Drive access to reformat or change partition data is the sign of a malware infection, and make no provision for legitimate access such as the one from Win32 disk imager or Rufus (they may whitelist diskpart so that it won't produce an error, but that's about it).
