Kids spend way too much time watching netflix. We have cancelled our account, but muy daughter has since started using a friends account so now I would like to just block access to Netflix completely. I tried adding netflix.com with a wildcard, but didnt seem to work. Anyone know of a way to block access completely?
We have a Firepower 4115 that we just recently migrated from ASA to FTD. We are looking to block netflix. We don't yet have the licensing in place to do URL filtering, so we have defined a netflix.com FQDN object and have an access list rule to block that. This seems to only work part of the time. We believe it was working correctly under ASA. Is it possible to block netflix at the firewall without URL filtering?
Since the FQDN option is hit or miss for your scenario I would recommend testing the block via application filters. If you edit your ACP go to applications tab and search for Netflix. There should already be Cisco provided Netflix filters. HTH!
I think you need URL license to do it proberly.. And i think the reason you see the block with fqdn netflix.com only works part of the time, is if users go to netflix.yyy then your acl wont block it. I dont know if you can do a wildcard fqdn in your access list so netflix.* and problably you should do *netflix.* if possible.
which ever geo location you in you do nslookup and upload the file (if you using FMC) go to objects-->security intelligence-->network list and feeds--->Add network list and feeds---> here a pop up will appear called it any name you want in "Type" call your text file and upload it.

Our ISP is BT and they supply a "free" home hub which despite their advertising does not cover our home. I have for several years used a DM200 VDSL Modem connected to an Orbi 55 Mesh system with no issues.
A while ago we had an evening of frequent short power cuts which 'upset' our system and I had to reset the connection to BT. and since then the Orbi system has not allowed access to these services. However if I use the BT Home Hub and PoE then all these services work entirely satisfactorily but we do not have WiFi throughout the house.
It seems to me that the one thing that Prime, iPlayer and Netflix have in common is that theyr require some form of login, where as YouTube and general internet services accessible via the television do not require a login. My working hypothesis is that the Dm200+Orbi are blocking something (port, protocol or something) whilst the BT Hub is allowing that something.
What mode is your modem working in? Bridge would be preferred. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. -is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the Orbi router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the Orbi router gets from the modem. Then you can use the Orbi router in Router mode.

Just yesterday I paid the non insignificant fee for SFC and I was able to get it configured and working. One of the main reasons is that I am a US expat outside of the US and want to access the internet as if I am in the states for many obvious reasons. I quickly learned that some of my US based streaming services (Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and even my Ring camera app) are blocked because they know I am using a VPN.
If you only want to watch on your iPad or laptop, you can use TailScale to connect to a machine at your home. This setup essentially turns your home into a proxy server, making it appear as if the connections originate from your home. The performance may not be great, but it gets the job done, allowing me to sync up shows before a flight.
Is there a way to block requests from being forwarded at a "pre" filter level, and send immediately the response to the client? I know something similar is doable with "static" filters, but I need to decide per request (based on the presence of certain parameters/headers in the request itself).
Note that if the client's API key is not authorized, all other filters will still be run, but the request will still fail due to ctx.setSendZuulResponse(false).When failing a response, it will by default be empty - that is, there is no headers such as Content-Type etc. It is a good idea to set them yourself so a client's browser etc. knows how to parse the response body.
I use a pre filter to check the authentication of the request, and if the request dose not authorized, then I return 401 and do not call the back end service any more. I do it in run() function like this:

Are you using a cell phone and the streaming app, connecting a wireless hotspot or personal WiFi jetpack to a smart TV, PC, or tablet/gaming console? What happens when you try to run that streaming service?
The primary method of viewing is via a wireless hotspot and smart TV but is also present with the cell phone app. When loading content from Netflix, loading will stop at 25% and then timeout with a message that there is no connection. This does not happen with other streaming services or with other Netflix users in the area not on Verizon. Diagnostics inside the Netflix app will show that the app can not reach the Netflix servers.
