I'm a new NetFlix user and I want to watch NetFlix on my 1st generation iPad. THe current NetFlix app available in the App store requires a minimum of IOS 6. The iPAD 1 maxes out at IOS 5.1.1.? Is there any way to obtain an older version of the app that is support in the iPAD 1?
Brilliant. Thank you so much for helping me with this. Like Savagewv, I too searched everywhere, and even contacted Netflix support. You are the only person that has ever been able to answer this question with a valid solution. It's a long way around a simple problem, but it works. Shame on the App Store and many thanks to flambocious!
It is possible, a bit of a hassle, but possible. First, you'll need to download the Netflix app through iTunes on your computer, this will make it show up as "purchased" in your library. After that, open up the App Store on your iPad 1 and go to the 'purchased' tab. When you try to install it this way it will tell you that you need iOS 6 or higher, but will also ask if you would like to download an older version of the app.
I searched many sites and contacted netflix, and almost gave up. This worked flawlessly. (I did however have to upgrade my first gen ipad to iOS 5.1 prior to loading netflix). Other sites and blogs said it wasn't possible. Thanks!!
I've tried this method and I'm still getting the prompt that I need to be on 6.0. I'm clicking on the Netflix icon and it takes me to version 5.0.2 updated Oct 28, 2013. I click on FREE, then Install App, then I get the 6.0 prompt and I don't see anything in the purchased tab. Am I doing something wrong here? Thanks.
Double checked my iPad and it wasn't installed. Just wondering what I'm doing wrong. I have the latest version of iTunes (11.1.3) and I'm trying to get this installed on the iPad first generation. Thanks for any help!
App Store will ask you:"Download an older version of this app. The current version requires iOS 6.0 or later, but you can download the last compatible version.", just click on Download and that's it.
Thank you for you response. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get it to work. Maybe it's just because I tried installing it previously. When I open App Store on my iPad, click on Purchased, then clicking on Netflix, it brings up the page like you would normally see it after searching for it. The "install" button is quickly disabled, I only assume because of the version of IOS I have as it stats it doesn't support 5.1. Any other suggestions? Oh, I also disabled iCloud thinking it kept trying to install that version. Thanks again.
I just bought the 4th generation Apple TV to replace my old Apple TV. I primarily use the Netflix app and noticed that on the new Apple TV you cannot filter by genres when searching on Netflix like you used to be able to on the old apple TV's Netflix app. Has anyone else noticed this? It is very frustrating to use when compared to the old Apple TV app as in the old apple tv's netflix app you could select a genre category and view all the movies in it. However, in the new apple tv's netflix app a few movies are displays for all the genres and you have to scroll up and down to get to your genre.
Just replaced 3rd generation Apple tv with 4th generation and the Netflix app feels like a really bad downgrade. Not only are genres gone, but half the screen is taken up by a picture leaving basically one row of like 5 movies in view. Way to much scrolling. I know you can use siri to find a movie by title. But most often I find movies just by browsing. Apple should just replace Netflix app with their own. Apples was good. I liked Apple TV 3 consistent interface between apps. Seems like this is no longer going to be the case.
Anyone found a solution by any chance? I've tried all of the same steps you tried and still getting the ATV-ui92 error on my 3rd gen Apple TV for over a month now while Netflix works just fine on other devices.
Its a ongoing issue , which our technical research team is already investigating, unfortunately we don't have a instant resolution for this as well as there is no specific ETA, right now we will be escalating this issue and you need not have to chat back to check the status of the escalation.
Reporting a problem notifies our teams to investigate the issue and work on resolving it as quickly as possible. There is no timeframe for it to be resolved. However once resolved you will be able to sign in to Netflix app on apple tv. You need not have to chat back to us for checking the status of the escalation.
Thanks for checking up on this. I'm glad to see that Netflix is aware of this issue already. I guess the best we can do for now is just wait for them to fix it. Really appreciate your initiative here!
Netflix logged me out while tv was off two nights ago. I tried all the steps Netflix gave me, changed passwords, reset apple tv (3rd generation). My account is also in the US but I also spend a lot of time in Mexico City. Nothing works. Netflix passed the ball to Apple and Apple has no answers. I'm pretty frustrated with this situation. The rest of the apps (Amazon Prime, Appletv, PBS, etc.) work just fine. I am certain it is something Netflix is doing, nothing to do with AppleTV.
Here is what I just got from Netflix on this: "But just to set your expectations, If you continue to experience this error after performing a full factory reset, Then there may be an unrecoverable issue with your device. If that is the case, Then the next step would be for you to reach out to your device manufacturer - Apple , for more assistance." Not very encouraging.
I want to say that I have already done the network test, via Wi-Fi and via ethernet, all other apps run well (YouTube, Badlands, etc). I have also tried to reboot the router, the Apple TV, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Even I tried to delete the app and reinstall it again, I have upgraded the OS.
This happens with my older Apple TV also. At high peak usage times and every night about 11:30pm it repeatedly boots me off of Netflix. It is apple's overloaded servers not your unit, to prove it, I switched to Netflix on my IPad and air played anetflix on to my Apple TV works every time ! as it is not going through the Apple TV servers. Apple wants to host all these other sites through their servers but dosen't have the bandwidth to handle them.
Netflix crashes would not have anything to do with the Apple servers. The app works like a website so it goes directly to Netflix. However, iTunes rentals/purchases would go through the Apple servers...
Yea sure, then why does the Apple TV crash and reboot every Time ? it's the apple servers shaking me ( and Netflix ) off of their system! I can do this ten times in a row : allow the Apple TV to reboot then go back to Netflix only to be booted off in about 10 seconds, but if I go instead to apple content, the system does not crash. Gready Apple wants the bandwidth for their content during high usage times.
I totally understand the frustration. But unfortunately that's just not how apps work. Do you believe that Google would allow YouTube data to be routed through Apple servers? Apps are just software, Netflix designs the apps for the platforms they want to support and the app creates a direct path between the device and the Netflix servers - unless it's a subscription or purchase from iTunes. I am not saying that you aren't experiencing a problem with your device, your Netflix app, your network etc. We all know of the battle between ISPs and Netflix which means that some ISPs will throttle any connection to Netflix, not to mention some are even doing general throttling during peak hours. _Rush_Hour
I tried to restore Apple TV, and also to uninstall and reinstall the app on the Apple TV. Yesterday evening I tried with another internet provider in the house of a friend and Netflix doesn't crash, it works perfectly. My bandwitch at home is HDSL 6 mb/s down 6 mb/s up, the bandwitch of my friend is an ADSL 12 mb/s down 0.8 mb/s up.
The strange thing is that by my connection at home, Netflix in iPhone works perfectly even when I stream it on my Apple TV, otherwise still by my connection, the native Netflix app on the Apple TV won't work properly.
