If you have an OpenVPN Access Server, we recommend downloading OpenVPN Connect directly from your own Access Server, as it will then come preconfigured for use. The version available here does not come preconfigured, but you can import a connection profile into it. It can also be used to update an existing installation and retain settings.

Our latest line of OpenVPN for Windows (OpenVPN Connect) software available for the major platforms features a new and improved user interface, making the experience of installing and using the OpenVPN for Windows software a snap. With an easy to use import feature you can import profiles straight from your OpenVPN Access Server or just import a saved profile from disk.

No, the client cannot connect to multiple servers at once. It does support multiple connection profiles, giving you the option to switch easily from one server to the next, but you can only be connected to one at a time. This is by design, to prevent unexpected traffic paths when connecting to multiple VPN servers at the same time. If you are a system administrator and you require a complex setup where multiple connections are active at the same time, there is the option to use the open source community OpenVPN client software available from our website.

This is the official OpenVPN Connect software for Windows workstation platforms developed and maintained by OpenVPN Inc. This is the recommended client program for the OpenVPN Access Server. The latest versions are available on our website. If you have an OpenVPN Access Server, you can download the OpenVPN Connect client software directly from your own Access Server, and it will then come pre-configured for use. The version available here contains no configuration to make a connection, although it can be used to update an existing installation and retain settings.

OpenVPN Access Server starts with a self-signed certificate. With this, you will receive warnings from your web browser about the site not being secure as well as a certificate error when importing a profile with the Connect Client. You can simply override the warnings or add an exception for your web browser. To resolve this, you can set up a DNS host name that resolves to the public address of your Access Server and install a valid SSL certificate that corresponds to that DNS host name. Going forward, you would use that hostname to access your server instead of the IP address. This is also the recommended method as validated SSL certificates can only ever function with a valid public DNS hostname.

Title is the name for the profile. It is automatically defined as the username with the hostname or IP address(example: user1@hostname). It differentiates between multiple profiles. You can define it manually as well. The title can be anything you want just so you can see which profile is which.

Choosing this option allows you to import an autologin profile with the address and credentials for your Access Server, then simply start the connection with the tap of a button. You would not need to re-enter credentials each time you connect. The autoprofile itself contains an embedded secure certificate that identifies and authorizes your connection automatically. It is an optional setting on the OpenVPN Access Server that the administrator of the server can choose to make available to you. If you find you cannot import the autologin profile, your administrator may not have allowed autologin through user permissions.

During investigation of a vulnerability called VORACLE, it was found that using compression to make the data that goes through the VPN tunnel smaller, and thus faster, has an adverse effect on security. To learn more about this see our security notification on our website regarding the VORACLE attack vulnerability. In order to protect our customers, we are disabling compression by default. Some servers of the open source variety can be configured in such a way that the client must do compression, or else the client may not connect successfully. In such a case, you should get the server updated to disable compression. But we understand that this is not always possible, and you may need to be able to connect to such a server. In that event you can go into the settings and re-enable compression.

Correct, and the screen index of each corresponds to the screen index in the system.
When you open the display properties in Windows, click the Identify button and it shows 1,2,3 etc on each screen. You can then tell the client to open whatever window or desktop on whatever screen index you want.

@nminchin would a script like this work to set the windows full screen for you? It works to maximize a window to full screen mode (a second desktop, not a separate client) on two different monitors with different scaling on Windows 10 for me.

I should note the position recall on return to windowed state does not work well on the right monitor in a dual monitor setup with different scaling. It has the same issues as Designer windows that do weird stuff when switching between scaling on the monitors. But the swap to full screen mode works reliably filling the entire monitor on whichever monitor it is on.

I have a site collection with the Open Documents in Client Applications by Default turned on in the Site Collection Features and the Advanced Settings in the document library are also set to Open in the client application, but the Excel and Word documents continue to open in the browser. Yes, my users can right click on the document and open the document in the client application, but this is not their normal practice and worked as expected just a few weeks ago. What am I missing?

@Jeff Henry @Vikram_Samal We have the exact same problem here (SharePoint 2016 on prem). Both in the advanced settings of the document library and in the features of the sitecollection, the option is set to open the documents by default in the client, but documents keep on opening in Office Online. Did you guys find a solution already?

I am having the same issue but don't have the site feature mentioned as an option. I want to force any documents to open in the client. When anything opens in the browser, all heck breaks loose. Thanks.

...but, I have learned at least this much-- we have to send links to FOLDERS in order to prevent auto-opening in the browser. If someone gets a link directly to the document it will always open in the browser first - no option. But if they at least have to go to the library first, then clicking will by default open in Word client application because of the library settings.

I know it is possible to set files to open in client applications when opening up a file from a SharePoint library, but is it possible to set that as default behavior when opening a file from a shared link? I have set the site collection default to open in client application and library setting to open in client application but when I send a co worker a shareable link out of sharepoint it will only open in the web version.

Personally I think every possible way to open a document in SharePoint (or other apps like Teams etc) should be default to open in client application - The user experience in the online version is simply too poor to even consider in most cases. I cannot understand why MS has chosen to force users into a bad experience.

However a relatively simple workaround for this is to (from within the Office app) go to "file" and then click "copy path" button. Paste the copied link into your email, Teams chat or wherever you want to share it and then remove the "?web=1" part at the end.

Well, if I (from within an office app) go to "file" and then click "copy path" (circled in blue in the attached pic). Then I can paste this link into e.g. Outlook and remove the trailing "?web=1" then, at least for me, it will open in the client app.

On my system, it downloads the file if I remove the ?web=1. My file>Info tab doesn't have the options below the file name, I have to click on it to get them, so maybe it's a difference in the versions?

Just posted on this same issue at -365/links-to-sharepoint-document-in-excel-opens-in-bro... "I just shared an excel document stored on SharePoint link in Teams chat and it downloads the file. I added the "?Web=1" after having to go into edit mode and create a link and that works to open in the browser. WHY DOES THE LINK DOWNLOAD AND NOT OPEN IN THE NATIVE APP? This is really getting frustrating. I tried the "ms-excel:ofeu" prefix and the link creator said it was not a valid link and would not let me even try it. Any help appreciated. I agree with another poster that having to add extensions and prefixes cannot be sustainable, either. Behavior of the link should not be based on settings in individual systems either for collaboration."

I have been trying to use this format URL with URI prefix on text in a text field in a sharepoint list, and the link always fails. Sharepoint seems to remove the entire url. Am i doing something wrong?

Restart Windows, making sure all pending updates are applied. Some users have found that restarting Windows, or restarting eM Client a few times resolves the issue, but otherwise you will need to delete the database.

Have you considered the possibility of an OS issue?
If so is your Win11 a clean install or an upgrade from Win10?
I have a clean install on a new laptop that has never been a problem.
I also had a laptop that I upgraded from Win10 to Win11 that was never really stable with some software not performing correctly (not eMC as it happens) my solution was format the drive then a clean install, since then no problems.
Something you can try is to roll back the latest updates on Win11 one by one to see if this makes a difference.
Also you can try running SFC and/or DISM

If you have created a new Windows user profile and it now works, then you have some corruption or registry issue in Windows and could try running running SFC and/or DISM as @skybat already advised, or try a registry restore. Failing that contact Microsoft to see how to fix a corrupted Windows profile.
