The universal value of Dante Alighieri's poetry is a founding element of the Italian cultural identity recognized all over the world. 2021 marks the seven hundredth anniversary of his death in Ravenna on 14 September 1321.

On March 25, however, is the data that scholars have indicated as the beginning of the journey into the afterlife of the Divine Comedy and which for this reason has been identified as Dante's National Day, Monday, with a specific provision of the Council of Ministers of the 2020.

Officially it was Roberto Benigni who opened Dante's year on 25 March (Danted) of this year with the reading of a song from the Divine Comedy, from the Quirinale and equally officially, at the end of the year, it will be maestro Riccardo Muti who will close it with three concerts from Verona, Ravenna and Florence, the three Dante cities par excellence.

There are many cultural initiatives throughout Italy, aimed at celebrating the Supreme Poet, symbol of the unity of our country. His Comedy is considered one of the masterpieces of world literature, today it is more relevant than ever not only for the hope it gives us that we will soon be able to "see the stars again" but for its universal message.

Universit degli Studi Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria also intends to contribute to the celebrations of the great poet. With this in mind, we propose an article, recently published in the Quotidiano del Sud that Prof. Mariateresa Russo wanted to dedicate to the poet and which can be read by downloading the attachment.

The article captures aspects of the life of the great poet and the divine songs related to food and the sin of gluttony, at the time considered one of the seven deadly sins, to stimulate a reflection on the dietary model of the society of well-being, on the concept of the Mediterranean diet which it can become a model for saving man and the planet.

Thisstudy aimed to broaden the concept of the nutritional pyramid to the social practices that are fundamentalto inhabiting the Earth in this way. The traditional food pyramid becomessocial and is presented as a universal lifestyle. That is good for humankind, society and the planet.

Thereare seven key words at the basis of this new pyramid: conviviality, which has always been an infallible recipe forconsolidating the bonds of friendship and fraternity between individuals, andpeoples. Tradition, which is thedepository of a cultural heritage that stratified over centuries and which isan infinite repertoire of cathedrals of taste. Seasonality, because consuming seasonal products means reducingenvironmental pollution and, at the same time, eating tastier food with fewerpreservatives. Sport, becauseoutdoors activities and movement have a huge impact on health.
