Brothers Conflict: Passion Pink is a Japanese otome game, or in a more simple terms, a Japanese dating simulation. It is one of the two games of the series published by Otomate; the other being Brothers Conflict: Brilliant Blue . The difference between the two games is that the possible love interests you may acquire are different due to the many choices and candidates.

Hinata Ema is the daughter of the famous adventurer Hinata Rintarou . One day, Ema finds out that her dad is going to remarry with a successful apparel maker named Asahina Miwa . Rather than bothering them, she decides to move in to the Sunrise Residence complex that is owned by Miwa. From there, she discovers that she has 13 stepbrothers. As she gets to know all of them, will one of her step-brothers fall in love with Ema?

The main protagonist in the game, and who you play as. A sixteen year old girl who has recently learned the true feeling of being in a family. Despite this, she is actually the adopted daughter of Hinata Rintaro, but is still considered part of the Asahina family.

One of the seven characters you can choose as a love interest. A mature thirty-one year old who works as a doctor. He is the eldest of the thirteen brothers, usually seen around the house when he isn't working. Masaomi is rather easy-going but has a sense of authority and good understanding.

One of the seven candidates you can choose from in the game. A flirtatious twenty-eight year old whose occupation is a monk. He is rather assertive and doesn't hold back when he wants to express his affections for Ema. Because of his flashy appearance and attitude he is despised by Juli.

One of the seven playable characters in the game. An active twenty-four year old who works as a novelist. He is usually seen dressed as a woman, despite being a man. Hikaru is the fourth son; he is usually watching over his brothers create conflicts because of Ema.

One of the seven characters you can choose as a love interest. An easygoing twenty-four year old who works as a seiyuu (Japanese for "voice actor", usually for anime or video games). He is one of the fan-favorite triplets with Azusa and Natsume.

The series was originally a novel which got turned into a manga, 4-koma comic, and then Playstation otome games before finally becoming an anime in 2013. The story follows the life of highschool student Ema Hinata who finds out that her father will soon be getting married to another woman and she will soon have 13 new brothers. In order to not be a bother to her newlywed parents, Ema decides to live together with her new extended family. As Ema tries to make a place for herself in this new family, her brothers are also having a hard time accepting her as just a sister.

However, I think one of the strengths of this series is her efforts to integrate into the family dynamics and seeing how her presence opens up old wounds or exposes rifts. We see this the most clearly when she begins to take over some of the chores and overall communication with the family away from Ukyo. We also see it in the conflicts that arise between the triplets and between Natsume and Subaru. Her sole goal is to become a family and I can absolutely understand that feeling given her background of absent father and lack of a mother or family of her own. To make this a better series though, I would have loved to see more inclusion of her father and new mother, even if it was just an episode of hanging out with her new mother or an episode where her father comes back to explain her adoption. That episode could have definitely been handled better. Instead of just getting a text from her father and explanation from Juli, it would have been a lot better to see a face-to-face family get-together. But, that is another area that really comes down to how many episodes they have to spare to take characterization away from the brothers.

Ladies, gentlemen, and non-binary folks, we are gathered here today to talk about an anime. Not just any anime, mind you, but the one, the only, Brothers Conflict. This is a show that is so genuinely awful it is honestly not worth it to even pretend there are redeeming qualities about it, an adaptation so lazy that the cast barely has a workable personality split among its almost 20-something-odd list of characters.

Ema is the main character in the same way that your avatar during a multiplayer fps game is technically the main character. Literally, the only purpose she serves is to show you around and get a better view of the brother characters who you are supposed to fall in love with. She is so shamelessly a self-insert that when I did bother to look at the Wikipedia page for this franchise, I was genuinely surprised to find out the light novels were the original source material.

Ema not only has no personality worth mentioning, but the only interests she is given are also to better connect her with the potential relationship matches she might have. Her liking video games? an excuse to get more involved with her brother that works at a video game company and her brothers that work as voice actors respectively. Her interest in flowers? so she can talk to the one that works in their home garden and give a nice romantic background for later romantic encounters. Seriously, how was this not a dating sim first?

Fun fact, I wrote most of this review and almost completely forgot to mention Juli, the talking squirrel character who only Ema and Louis can understand. This is never explained and is treated as totally and completely normal.

I could sit here and give you a sentence-long blurb about each of the other main characters and pretend like I care about their development, and yeah, that would probably be the responsible critic thing to do. However, this is an anime blog, and also there are thirteen of them, none of who have any remotely notable personality traits outside of their occupations and their insatiable lust for their 16-year-old step-sister.

It absolutely should not be overlooked that much of what happens in this series is older, college age and above men going after a 16-year-old girl. It is most definitely weird and creepy and Brothers Conflict should be criticized for it, especially since at no point is this fact ever addressed, let alone framed in a negative light.

At the very least, when it comes to a show like Oreimo, there are points where the weird incest vibes are less distracting because the characters are notably interesting and have conflicts outside of that dynamic. Because this show is only interested in romantics to the point of being one-dimensional, it becomes hard to ignore. So, not only is the show painfully boring, but it is also incredibly gross and creepy.

This is by no means meant as a criticism of the animators themselves, as they were likely operating with pretty spare time and coordination and thus just had to put something together. Rather, it is pretty clear that Brothers Conflict was only greenlit as a way of selling merch and copies of the existing materials.

Brothers Conflict is a half-assed, quantity-over-quality approach to making a reverse harem that does not come close to overcoming its problematic and boring execution. I reached some of the highest highs this year when it came to the medium of anime, so I suppose it only makes some sort of weird cosmic sense to torture myself with the lowest of lows.

Brothers Conflict tells the story of Ema Hinata, also called Chi, who has been an only child her entire life. Her father, Rintaro, is an adventurer who spends a lot of time traveling, leaving her at home with her pet Juli (a talking squirrel). One day, Rintaro tells Ema he is getting married to a clothing designer, Miwa Asahina. Ema then moves in with her new step-brother and discoveres there is thirteen of them, all of whom develop romantic feelings for her over the course of the show. The story follows this newly formed, crazy family as they all learn to live together.

I think my main problem with this show was the story and the little character development they had. First of all, THIS IS YOUR SISTER! I know, I know, they are not related. However, they all have the same last name AND their parents are married. How do 13 different people manage to fall in love with their sister. THIRTEEN! They also all fell in love with her at about the same time. Except Yusuke who had a crush on her before she was his sister, so he was not as bad. But still! I think maybe the show would have been better if it had followed more of the true otome route where each brother had time devoted to him and his story without the other brothers trying to get with Ema at the same time. Kind of like what Amnesia did. After Ema and a brother get together, the story resets and it goes to focus on a different brother. Then that causes problems because the show would have to be crazy long. However, that is the only thing I can think of that would allow this story to flow better. It is not the harem aspect either, harem anime do not really bother me, but they are her brothers which adds to the offsetting feelings I got from this show.

In the end I award Brothers Conflict with a D. I tried to give it a C, I tried to rely on some catchy music and the animation not being horrible to boost it up, but story is a huge part of an anime. When someone cannot get into the story, and you do not make your characters relatable the anime just cannot work. Now, saying that, I know that some people like this show. I do! And to each their own. But this show was just not anything special to me and I could not get into it. When I watched it the first time, it kind of became a guilty pleasure that I watched. Then I rewatched it for this review and had no idea what is was I liked about it in the first place.
