to Enable Artisan
Hi
We are inviting you to a 2 day get together during the Onam festival,
i.e. 13th and 14th of September, to Aruvacode, Nilambur, the spiritual
center of Enable Artisan Project. ( Do reply to
enable...@gmail.com ).
Kumbham began 15 years ago in this village. This has provided many
learning about how to take forward the craft.(www.kumbham.org)

Three initiatives have begun based on this experience.

Enable Artisan is an attempt to work with young potters around the
country (www.enableartisan.org). Rural design school is a micro level
experiment to work with the children of the artisan community in
Nilambur.
( http://my.opera.com/jinankb/albums) Center for craft in
Architecture is an attempt to sensitize the architects to the
necessity of including the artisans in their consciousness.

We would like to avail this opportunity to connect friends from
different places who have been collaborating and supporting in all
these attempts. This is of course a very informal get together. I am
sure that you would like to see children's work and new experiments
happening in Kumbham itself. 3- 4 sessions are planned so that
introduction of the guests and various initiatives and discussions on
them could happen. Your suggestions are welcome.

As per Dinesh's suggestion, guests would be hosted by various potter
families in the village, providing them breakfast and dinner while we
could have a common lunch.
The other option is to accommodate the guests in nearby hotels which
are just a kilometer away and would charge Rs. 500/- per day
approximately.
Those who opt to stay with the potter families, would need to pay
Rs.750/- for the whole duration which will help them to make the
necessary arrangements. We need to know this well in advance.

In case you plan to come by train, bookings need to be done
immediately. The nearest stations are:
Palakkad - for those coming from the North.
Thrissur, Shoranur – for those coming from South.
Calicut - if you opt to come through the Konkan route.
Nilambur is about 2-3 hours from these stations by bus. There are
trains to
Nilambur 5-6 times a day from Shoranur.

Nearest airport is Calicut, which is 40Km. from Nilambur.

Direct overnight bus facility is also available from Bangalore to
Nilambur.

Aruvacode is 1Km away from Nilambur with a number of autorikshaws
available.
Do confirm your visit so that we can make the necessary arrangements.
As of now, Bapoo Row, Narasimham, Nagarjuna, etc are coming from
Hyderabad by road.

Shashikala from Chennai, Purnima from Delhi, Dinesh, Gopi, etc from
Bangalore have also confirmed their visit.

Awaiting your reply and your visit.
