Subject:  SNOW AND ICE UPDATE

 

ROAD CONDITIONS:

·         HILLS CLOSED: Due to the continuing weather conditions, hills listed below are still closed.  An updated list is available on our website at www.olympiawa.gov/snow.

 

·         7th at McCormick and Central

·         10th at Fir Street and Central

 

·         CLEARING OF LIFELINE (PRIMARY) ROADS CONTINUES:  Lifeline roads continue to be sanded and are open, yet icy in spots.  Drivers are reminded to drive cautiously, especially on hills.

   

·         SECONDARY STREETS ADDRESSED AS TIME ALLOWS:  After lifeline roads are clear, crews will work on secondary and neighborhood streets.  Please check the City of Olympia website for primary plowing routes at www.olympiawa.gov/snow.

 

CITY BUSES STILL RUNNING:   Citizens are encouraged to utilize this valuable resource. Please check the Intercity Transit website for a list of operational routes at www.intercitytransit.com.  

 

GARBAGE COLLECTION FOR CITY OF OLYMPIA CUSTOMERS:  

·         The below areas carts were NOT collected on Tuesday, November 24, 2010, due to snow and ice conditions.  Public Works crews will make every attempt to get to these areas today.  Citizens do not need to call to report missed carts in these areas:

·         26th Ave. NE (dead end off of Gull Harbor Road)

·         San Francisco hill and Rose Street

·         Bigelow between East Bay and Puget

·         Devoe Street south of Pacific

 

  • Garbage will be collected on Thanksgiving.  Crews may arrive earlier than normal on holidays, so citizens should set their carts out by 6:00 a.m. to ensure collection.
  • Public Works relays garbage may freeze in carts, making it difficult or impossible to completely empty.  Crews need your help.  If possible, place your cart in your garage until your pick-up day.

 

FROZEN WATER PIPES:  Tips to help you keep your pipes from freezing are posted on the City of Olympia website, www.olympiawa.gov.
