4-25-11 Seguimiento - follow up

Jesús se acercó a ellos y les dijo: --Dios me ha dado toda autoridad
en el cielo y en la tierra. Vayan, pues, a las gentes de todas las
naciones, y háganlas mis discípulos; bautícenlas en el nombre del
Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo, y enséñenles a obedecer todo lo
que les he mandado a ustedes. Por mi parte, yo estaré con ustedes
todos los días, hasta el fin del mundo. (Mateo 28: 18-20)


¿Se han dado cuenta que vivimos en la era del seguimiento? A todo se
le da seguimiento; si vas a una cita médica en unos días llama una
asistente para dar seguimiento; si eres parte de una empresa hay que
darle seguimiento a los clientes; en las escuelas hay que darle
seguimiento al desarrollo académico del estudiante, etc. Pero, ¿qué
seguimiento se le da a la resurrección de Cristo? Tomemos en cuenta
el último mandamiento colectivo que le dio Jesús a los discípulos, y
por extensión a nosotros. Primero, les exhortó a que salieran,
“Vayan”; a salir de lo familiar, de lo cómodo, de la rutina, de las
estructuras. Luego, les mandó que hicieran conexiones, “hagan
discípulos”; a conectar con el vecino, con el compañero de trabajo,
con la familia que hace tiempo no visitamos, con el ancianito que está
solo y se siente abandonado, con el confinado que se pierde en un
torbellino de pasiones y emociones sin saber cómo expresarse si no es
con la violencia, y mucho más. Cristo nos dijo que los bautizáramos y
les enseñáramos todo lo que Él había mandado. Esto sí que es un
programa efectivo de seguimiento, tanto lo es que hoy día nosotros
somos seguidores de Cristo porque los discípulos originales se
encargaron de dar seguimiento a lo acontecido hace más de dos mil
años. Y nosotros, ¿qué tipo de seguimiento haremos?

Then Jesus came near and said to them, "All authority has been given
to Me in heaven and on earth. Go, therefore, and make disciples of
all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe everything I have
commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the
age." (Matthew 28: 18-20)

Have you noticed that we leave in the era of the “follow-up”? To
everything there is a follow-up. If you go to a medical appointment,
a few days later an assistant will call to do some follow-up. If you
work at any company you have to do follow up with your clients. At
schools we have to follow up on a student’s academic development,
etc. But, what kind of follow-up can be done to the Resurrection.
Well, let’s take a look at the last collective commandment that Jesus
gave to His disciples and by extension to us as well. First, He told
them to go out, to get out of the familiar, out of whatever is
comfortable, out of the routine, out of the structures. Then, He told
them to make connections, “make disciples”; to connect with a
neighbor, with a co-worker, with family that we haven’t seen in a
while, with the elderly person who sits by himself thinking that
everyone has abandoned him, to the prisoner that is thrown about in a
storm of passions and emotions that can only find an outlet through
violence, and so many others. Christ told us to baptize them and
teach them everything that He has commanded. THIs is an effective
follow up program, so much so that today we are followers of Christ
because the original disciples endeavored to do the necessary follow
up, over two thousand years ago! And, what about us, what kind of
follow up are we doing???
