6-9-11 Semblanza - Appearance

“Queridos hermanos, ya somos hijos de Dios. Y aunque no se ve todavía
lo que seremos después, sabemos que cuando Jesucristo aparezca seremos
como él, porque lo veremos tal como es. Y todo el que tiene esta
esperanza en él, se purifica a sí mismo, de la misma manera que
Jesucristo es puro. (1 Juan 3: 2-3)

¡Cuán hermosa promesa encontramos en estos versículos, “cuando Cristo
aparezca seremos como Él”! Aunque parezca algo demasiado
simplificado, este pasaje me trae a la mente el proceso que se pasa
cuando uno desea vivir más saludablemente. ¿Cuántos de ustedes se han
comprometido alguna vez a un régimen de perder peso? Empezamos con
mucho brío y entusiasmo porque sabemos que vamos en pos de un estilo
de vida más saludable y quizás visualizamos un cuerpo más atractivo,
¿cierto? Al comenzar no tenemos ni la menor idea de cómo nos veremos,
o cómo nos sentiremos cuando lleguemos al peso deseado. Tampoco
sabemos si llegaremos a lograrlo, pero tenemos la esperanza de que
podemos hacerlo. Pero que duro se nos hace cuando nos damos cuenta
que esto conlleva sacar tiempo para hacer ejercicio, planificar
cuidadosamente lo que se va a ingerir y todo lo demás que se requiere
para llegar a ese estado saludable. Muchos se desaniman y optan por
regresar a los hábitos antiguos. Hay otros, sin embargo, que
continúan adelante y alcanzan las metas deseadas. Pero el proceso no
termina al llegar a la meta, entonces comienza el proceso de
mantenimiento; es un proceso que dura el resto de nuestras vidas.

Amados, es menester que reconozcamos, aceptemos y actualicemos nuestra
identidad como hijos de Dios, aunque no tengamos la menor idea de cuál
será nuestra semblanza en el futuro tenemos la esperanza que seremos
como Él. Así pues continuamos en este proceso de purificación y
consagración porque “…estoy seguro de que Dios, que comenzó a hacer su
buena obra en ustedes, la irá llevando a buen fin hasta el día en que
Jesucristo regrese.” (Filipenses 1:6)

“Dear friends, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not
yet been revealed. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him,
because we will see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in
Him purifies himself just as He is pure.” (1John 3: 2-3)

What a marvelous promise we find in these verses, “when He appears, we
will be like Him”! Although it may sound overly simplistic, when I
read these verses I am reminded of the process of seeking a healthier
life style. How many of us have ever embarked on a journey to lose
weight? At first we might be really enthusiastic and excited because
we know we are about to get healthier, and we might even visualize a
more attractive figure, yes? When we begin we have no idea of how we
will look, or how we will feel when we get to the desired weight. We
don’t even know if we will make it to the desired goal, yet we hold on
to the hope that we will get there. Then we come to the realization
that this process requires hard work. It requires us to make time to
exercise, to plan carefully everything that we will ingest, and all
the other steps that we have to take to get to that healthier
lifestyle. Many become discouraged and choose to return to old
habits, while others will move forward and accomplish what they set
out to do. But the journey does not end once we get to the goal, then
we begin the maintenance phase, and that is a lifelong commitment.

Beloved, it is crucial that we recognize, accept, and act on our
identity as children of God, though we may not know or understand what
we will look like in the future, we have the hope that we will be like
Him. So, we must continue in this process of purification and
sanctification because, “…I am sure of this, that He who started a
good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of
Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1: 6)
