2-22-11 Afan - Eagerness

“Respondiendo el Señor, le dijo: Marta, Marta, tú estás preocupada y
molesta por tantas cosas; pero una sola cosa es necesaria, y María ha
escogido la parte buena, la cual no le será quitada. (Lucas 10: 41-42)

Leíamos esta mañana una de las conversaciones entre Jesús y Marta, la
hermana de Lázaro. Ella en su afán y creciente resentimiento se
atrevió a exigirle al Señor que reprendiera a María por no haberla
ayudado en la cocina. Él con tierno amor, pero con autoridad, le
recuerda lo que es verdaderamente importante, sentarse a los pies del
Maestro en humildad, en adoración y en expectativa del mensaje que se
ha de impartir.
También meditábamos en el Salmo 39, en el cuál David expresa, “He
aquí, tú has hecho mis días muy breves, y mi existencia es como nada
delante de Ti; ciertamente todo hombre, aun en la plenitud de su
vigor, es sólo un soplo. Sí, como una sombra anda el hombre;
ciertamente en vano se afana; acumula riquezas, y no sabe quién las
recogerá. Y ahora, Señor, ¿qué espero? En Ti está mi esperanza.” (vv.
5-7). Escojamos, pues, con sabiduría como investiremos nuestro
tiempo, nuestras energías, ¿cuál será nuestro propósito para el día de
hoy?

“The Lord answered her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and upset
about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has made the right
choice, and it will not be taken away from her." (Luke 10: 41-42)

Earlier this morning my husband, my son, and I were reading one of the
exchanges between Jesus and Martha, Lazarus’ sister. In her desire,
eagerness to please, and subsequent growing resentment, she had the
audacity to demand that the Lord would rebuke Mary for not helping her
in the kitchen. Jesus with great care, yet with authority, reminds her
of what is truly important, to sit at the Master's feet in humility,
adoration and expectation of the message to be taught.

We also meditated on Psalm 39, where David expresses, “You, indeed,
have made my days short in length, and my life span as nothing in Your
sight. Yes, every mortal man is only a vapor. Certainly, man walks
about like a mere shadow. Indeed, they frantically rush around in
vain, gathering possessions without knowing who will get them. "Now,
Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You. (vv. 5-7) Let us, then,
choose wisely how we will invest our precious and limited time. What
about the resources that the Lord has allowed us to steward? What
will be our purpose for today?
