4-20-11 La boda – The Wedding
“Vayan, pues, ustedes a las calles principales, e inviten al banquete
a todos los que encuentren.” (Mateo 22: 9)

Después de limpiar Su casa y habiendo reposado debidamente, Jesús
lanza Su “Curso Intensivo Acelerado sobre El Reino de Dios" que
contiene muchas parábolas, discursos, mandamientos, profecías, además
de sanar a muchos. Hoy me gustaría que nos fijáramos en la parábola
de la fiesta de bodas - Mateo 22: 1-14. Dice la Palabra que un rey,
Dios, mandó a llamar a unos invitados muy especiales a la boda de su
Hijo, pero ellos no le hicieron caso. Entonces, Él envía a sus
asistentes a invitar a todo el mundo. Salieron, pues, por las calles,
y "juntaron a todos lo que hallaron, juntamente malos y buenos" (v.
10). Durante el banquete del Rey se encuentra con un hombre que no
estaba vestido para la boda y mandó que lo escoltaran fuera del local.
De hecho, mandó que lo ataran y lo echaran “en las tinieblas de
afuera, allí será el lloro y el crujir de dientes” (v. 13). Pensé,
"¡Wow, eso está bastante duro!" Esa expulsión me pareció extraña y
casi chocante, sobre todo porque hoy en día hacemos un gran esfuerzo
en predicar la doctrina “Come As You Are", o sea “Ven tal como
estás”.

Empecé, pues, a buscar alguna explicación o razón por ello y le pedí
al Señor que me mostrara por qué el invitado especial había sido
expulsado. En este proceso de tratar de entender este pasaje me
encontré con este trocito de información:

"El hombre sin traje de boda al parecer, representa el falso discípulo
(7: 22). Su enmudecimiento indica que él reconoce su falta, no es que
el rey (Dios) está demandando algo imposible, sobre todo porque era
costumbre que los reyes proveyeran vestimenta de fiesta para los que
lo necesitaran, si carecían de ella. Aquí se puede ver el rechazo a
propósito de la oferta del rey. "(1444, La Biblia de Estudio de
Apologética, 2007)

Sin duda, Dios jamás rechazaría a nadie, especialmente si es Él quien
hace la invitación, tanto a malos como buenos. Entonces, me di cuenta
de la ocasión para el banquete. ¡Era LA boda! ¡LA BODA DE SU HIJO!
Todo el mundo tendría que vestirse para esa gran ocasión. Él mismo
proporcionaría todo lo necesario para poder disfrutar de esa fiesta.
Él abrió las puertas y dijo: "Venga uno, vengan todos. No es necesario
mandar el RSVP. Sólo vengan. Y si no tiene nada que llevar o ponerse,
no se preocupe, Yo se lo daré". Y así lo hace.

Amados, cuando aceptamos Su invitación, Él nos ofrece la oportunidad
de ser lavados, limpiados y ataviados adecuadamente. Sí, venimos tal
y como estamos, sin embargo, no debemos, ni PODEMOS seguir como
estábamos cuando llegamos. Hay muchos pasajes que se refieren a
despojarnos del “hombre viejo” y revestirnos del nuevo (Colosenses 3:
9-10), o de hacer morir todo lo terrenal en nosotros (Colosenses 3:
5-8), ponernos la armadura de Dios (Efesios 6: 10-20), y vestirnos
"como escogidos de Dios, santos y amados, de entrañable misericordia,
de benignidad, de humildad, de mansedumbre, de paciencia ..." (Col 3,
12). Para participar de la boda, hay que vestirse para la boda.

Jesús terminó la parábola diciendo: "Porque muchos son llamados, y
pocos escogidos". Entonces, piénsalo bien, ¿qué vas a ponerte tú?

“Therefore, go to where the roads exit the city and invite everyone
you find to the banquet.” (Matthew 22: 9)

After cleaning house, Jesus goes on to deliver an Intensive Crash
Course on “The Kingdom of God”; lots of parables, discourses,
commandments, prophecies, and healings. Today I would like for us to
consider the Parable of the Wedding Banquet – Matthew 22: 1-14. A
king, God, invites some very special guests to His Son’s wedding, and
they “snubbed” Him. So, He sends His attendants to invite everyone.
They went out into the streets, and “gathered everyone they found,
both evil and good” (v. 10). During the banquet the King runs into
one of the ‘guests’ who was not dressed for a wedding and had him
escorted off the premises. Actually, He had him bound and thrown
“into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of
teeth” (v. 13). I thought, “Wow, that’s pretty harsh!” For some
reason this struck me as odd, especially since nowadays we take such
great pains to preach the ‘come as you are’ doctrine.

I had to do some soul searching and asking God why that particular
guest had been thrown out. In this process of trying to understand
this passage I found this little tidbit of information:
“The man without a wedding garment apparently represents the false
disciple (7: 22). His speechlessness indicates that he recognizes his
fault, not that the king (God) is making an impossible demand,
especially since there was a custom of kings providing festal garments
for those who needed but lacked them. Deliberate spurning of the
king’s offer may be in view here.” (1444, The Apologetics Study Bible,
2007)

Surely God would never turn anyone away, especially since He had
invited all, both evil and good. Then, I noticed the occasion for the
banquet. It was THE wedding!!! His Son’s Wedding!!! Everyone needed
to dress accordingly. He provided everything necessary to be able to
enjoy this feast. He opened the doors and said, “Come one, come all.
No RSVP necessary. Just come. And if you have nothing to wear, no
worries, I will provide”. Indeed, He does.

Beloved, when we accept His invitation, He provides the opportunity to
get washed up, cleaned up, and suited up. Yes, we come as we are, yet
we do not, we CANNOT remain as we are. There are so many passages
that refer to shedding off our old nature and putting on the new (Col.
3: 9-10), or putting to death whatever is in us that is worldly (Col.
3: 5-8), putting on the Armor of God (Eph. 6: 10-20), and putting on
“heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and
patience…” (Col 3: 12). To partake of the wedding, we need to dress
for the wedding.

Jesus ended the parable saying, “For many are invited, but few are
chosen”. What will you wear?
