There is always the issue of trust. Jim and Huck do eventually become
friends but only to a so called extent. Since Jim started out as a
slave, it wasn’t until he ran away that he and Huck got to know each
other. I however don’t think that Jim will ever fully trust Huck. I
also think that Jim might be forced to trust Huck a little bit. That
is because Huck knows about Jim’s bounty over his head for his
arrest. All it takes is one slip of the tongue to the wrong person
and Jim is gone. At the same time Huck and Jim have no reason not to
trust each other because they are friends. That is what most friends
do. Why would they do the things they do for each other if they
didn’t trust one another. Huck practically saves Jims life when they
meet. They both get into a raft and go away before they get shot at
anymore. Another reason why they would trust each other is because
they are all that they really know. In other words, they have each
other and really nothing else. They save each other’s lives time and
time again. They are there for each other it seems like.
