I have just released a new Virtual GameBoy Advance (VGBA) version 3.2.
VGBA is a portable Nintendo GameBoy Advance emulator. There are VGBA
ports to Windows, MSDOS, Symbian, and PocketPC. For details, see

http://www.komkon.org/fms/VGBA/

In this version, I have added a built-in configuration menu, made
several important fixes to the CPU emulation and the built-in
debugger, and changed the code structure to better integrate Symbian-
specific speedups.

The registered users of VGBA-Windows and VGBA-MSDOS are going to get
their new copies by email in the next few days. Contact me if you are
a registered user and do not get a copy.

The VGBA-Symbian 3.2 will be coming in the next few days as well, as I
make the last changes to it.

Yes, it will be playable, but not for every game. I am getting 25..50%
of the original GBA speed on my 208Mhz E70. RPGs and puzzle games
should have no problem, but the action games are sluggish. They feel
more or less like J2ME games. Feature wise, the new version with have
a builtin config menu and saved preferences. Still no sound: at this
speed it does not sound good anyway.

well... the current released version has sound, but the emulation is
slow and, as you say, it doesn't sound good (or doesn't sound at all).
But i have (slowly) played Metroid Fusion with (slow) sound.
is it possible to gain speed by disabling sound emulation, so the cpu
can be focused in the graphics only?

The melodic sound channels in the current version have been left on by
mistake. As you say, they sound bad and can't sound any better at
this speed. So, I am now turning them off.

Melodic sound does not require many CPU cycles. I have greatly
improved speed by rewriting the whole ARM emulation in assembly
though. There are few other spots I optimized, but they are too
specific to describe.

At any rate, games like Metroid Fusion and F-Zero play more or less
like any J2ME action game now, i.e. they are sluggish but playable.
