Hi, I can't seem to establish control of zx spectrum games with my Nvidia shield controller. I had it working fine a few years ago but for some reason it doesn't seem to work anymore. I have tried re-mapping the joystick controls to the d-pad, but it's still not working.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

This should actually work. At least it works for me. If you have any other input devices plugged or connected to that Shield, try disconnecting them and see if it makes things work.

Hi, I've got a small keyboard which I've disconnected now, but this hasn't fixed the problem I'm afraid.
It's very strange since the Nvidia remote control works fine. For some reason its only the controller d-pad or sticks that don't work, although the buttons 'A', 'B', etc work fine. Not sure what's going to on to be honest. Very strange.

Ah, so you have both the gaming controller AND the remote control connected at the same time? Well, that does it: Speccy probably considers the remote control as "player 1 joystick", while the gamepad ends up as "player 2 joystick", hardly used anywhere in Spectrum games.

So, disconnect the remote control, see if this makes gaming controller work. =)

Phew!! That fixed it. Thank you very much for your help. I would not have thought I'd need to disconnect the remote also, but thankfully that's all it was.

Much appreciated

It is a bit of a problem on the Speccy side, but I am not currently sure how to fix it completely. The emulator will make an inventory of all the input devices plugged into the system and assign them to players. IF there is a device on that inventory list BEFORE the gaming controller, it gets assigned to player #1, while the game controller goes to player #2. And yes, that tiny remote is a valid input device :)
