No, Dropbox does not yet show subtitles, even if they are embedded into the video files. A video with embedded subtitles can display in any modern video player, such as VLC, but no, Dropbox does not yet support this. I work at a university and this poses an accessibility issue for us. We can't use Dropbox to share and collaborate around video content because our mission is to make our content accessible to all students and faculty, regardless of their disability or background.

YET I'm still unable to read subtitles for regular videos on my Dropbox, just the same way as on my Macbook when the .vtt or .srt subtitle file is located in the same folder with the identical name of the matching video.

Thanks for posting here on the Dropbox Community and thank you all very much for your feedback on subtitles. It seems like there is a combined will to make this happen among the people who have posted on this thread so I would highly recommend that someone posts it as a feature request over on our Share an idea board, if everyone who has commented here voted for it it could start some good momentum!

Thanks for mentioning Dropbox Replay @shinbeth, I think this is a really good example of how an idea can go through the Share an idea process and become a feature if there is enough demand for it. Just out of curiosity, have you been using Replay, and do you find having the subtitles in there has been a helpful addition? Also, just so you're aware, we recently launched a Dropbox Replay where Replay users can connect with each other and some members of the Replay team, so if you do have any more ideas or feedback we'd love to hear from you over there.

Still, there is one thing that subtitles entirely ruin: jokes. Subtitles will straight-up ruin a joke. Actors pause or take their time to emphasize a joke. If the punchline appears across the bottom of the screen before the actor can finish, the momentum and bite of the joke can be completely ruined. Some streamers are better about this, with subtitles being slightly delayed, but that presents its own challenges.

Subtitles are necessary, but not for everything. They can draw attention away from stunning visuals, but not entirely. When it comes to the casual use of subtitles, it amounts to a matter of preference. My wife and I will keep using them as long as our children quietly go to sleep at 7 PM. That will happen forever, right? Right?!

Why does it have to be so difficult to locate subtitles on this TV? Yes, there is a button on the remote control but it doesn't work for streamed stations or apps. At some point I saw an option on settings which said there are different settings for broadcast or streamed but I cannot find it again as it was buried deep in one set of settings or another. Then, while watching ITV X I found I could turn subtitles off within the programme content. At 81 and with hearing difficulties I would have liked something a lot simpler...but it's the kind of thing you can hardly expect a salesperson to know. And there are times when I don't want subtitles on because in a live programme eg the news, they lag behind too far to be of any use.

As for live TV like the news then it can be forgiven that the poor person sitting at a desk with a pair of headphones on watching and listening to the same broadcast as you is a little behind as they furiously type out the words you can hear/ not hear and only for it to be less than a few seconds out. As it is broadcast Live news then the button on the remote will switch them off for you if the delay is too much.

In the future Artificial Intelligence will do the TV watching for you, and then in the morning wake you up with a cold cup of coffee and a piece of cake and tell you, that episode of Emmerdale you wanted to see was rubbish and not worth watching, and I can't possibly tell you what was on the news as it was so terrible I can't risk upsetting you.

Hi @Cristian74047304, you can enable subtitles on your Samsung TV Plus by going into Samsung TV Plus > Go onto any programme/channel > Press the down arrow on your remote control > Settings cog > Caption > Tap on the dot on the right-hand side of 'Caption' to enable this. The dot will turn blue.
