Disclaimer: I am a beginner using Linux.

I am trying to run SPRING through Ubuntu on Windows.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
Version: 10.0.19044 Build 19044

After installing Anaconda3 and running the installation script for Linux found on the webpage (https://spring.fz-juelich.de/install.html), it appears the installation was successful. After re-launch of the shell and typing spring in the command prompt as per the activation instructions I receive a message that the command is not found, but can be installed (either ruby-spring version 2.1.0-1 or spring version 104.0+dfsg-4ubuntu7). I have attached a screenshot to this post.

Which version do you advice installing?

Dear Christer,

Could you share the output log of the installation?
Do you have conda activated after the installation? Normally there is a "(base)" at the terminal prompt.

Best wishes,

Carsten

Thank you for the response Carsten!

After some troubleshooting I found that conda was not installed properly. Further, I found that this approach of running SPRING through WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) was problematic as it lacks a graphical user interface by default. I rebooted another computer with Ubuntu and managed to get the software running there.

Would you still be interested in the output log?

Best regards,

Christer

P.S.

I have found some ways to crash the software but I will make a separate entry for this.

Dear Christer,

Thanks for posting the message and following up on the issue. We will need to test the installation of SPRING on the Windows Subsystem for Linux in the future as we have not done this. I am glad that the Ubuntu install worked.

Best wishes,

Carsten
