Dear Spring users,

It is a pleasure to announce a new release of the Spring software suite for single-particle based helical reconstruction.

We have implemented two major upgrades:
1. MICHELIXTRACE
- Fast and optimized tracing based on statistical thresholding
- Including material flexibility analysis of assembly population to survey specimen behavoir

For more details refer to Huber, S. T., Kuhm, T., Sachse, C. (2017). Automated tracing of helical assemblies from electron cryo-micrographs. J Struct Biol, in press. <https://doi.org/10.1016/j.jsb.2017.11.013>

2. Helical diffraction simulator web service
On http://spring.embl.de/ we have implemented a web tool to compute theoretical helical layer line patterns from the input of helical symmetry parameters, i.e. rise and rotation.  The layer lines are computed based on helical diffraction theory (Cochran, 1952). The web service is based on the program SEGLAYER2LATTICE within the Spring suite.

For updating, download the new binary <http://www.sachse.embl.de/emspring/install.html#install-binaries> or for updates from version 0.85 <http://www.sachse.embl.de/emspring/install.html#update>.

Happy processing.

Best wishes,

Carsten
