C-CDA Sample Data for Hospital Encounters

EMS Interoperability Task Force,

 

Following the most recent task force call, where we discussed the hospital encounter information that’s important for EMS to receive after the end of an EMS encounter, I’m creating a mapping of the data found in HL7 C-CDA documents to the NEMSIS EMSDataSet eOutcome section. Please reply if you have information for the following:

 

1. C-CDA Sample Data: I am aware of the HL7 CDA Examples site. I’m interested in additional sources of HL7 C-CDA sample data, especially data from real-world C-CDA documents that have been de-identified. We all know that real-world data can often differ from “clean-room” sample data in significant ways. I want to make sure I take into account the real-world variability that may exist in C-CDA documents.
   
   
2. ED vs. Inpatient Data: EMS would like to be able to distinguish between what happened in the emergency department and what happened during the hospital inpatient stay. I’m unclear on how to find that information in C-CDA. Would we look at the document source (ED vs hospital), the document type (progress note vs discharge summary), encompassing encounter data, or data within the document body (dates/times or other data indicating where an activity happened)?
