We've received an incredible response to our first questionnaire and
lots of good information for discussion. A lot of people are already
using the information in the EMR to improve patient care. I've posted
some of the responses on this page.

I was wondering if any of you have actually been able to measure and
document an improvement in patient health or delivery of service
(efficiency, quality, etc.) as a result of using data.

Please feel free to post a response to this message or on the page to
tell us more.

Thanks for all of your input... it will help make a better workshop
for all of us.

For our HIV/AIDS treatment program in Nigeria, we have an annual External Quality Assurance that is a joint effort between implementer and user. We've done this in the past 2 years to measure quality of data in the database, user's proficiency, issues with data management and issues with the system itself. We created a tool to conduct quality assurance activity and produced reports that were distributed among the users and implementers. The reports included issues found, what need to be done to address the issues, and recommendations.
In order to improve data quality and to reduce transcription error, we've interfaced our database (CAREWare) with some lab instruments. Two of interfaces (CAREWare-CyFlow SL3, and CAREWare - Sysmex KX21N) have been rolled out at several of our sites, and we're piloting one interface at this moment (CAREWare-Vitros 250).
We'd be happy to share this experience with everybody.
