Hello Folks

I've started this thread so that we can continue our conversation about the Mearns Youth Consultation and give Jodie the opportunity to input since she wasn't able to during the live event. I thought Kirsty and Fraser did a really good job and we all prevailed despite all the technological hitches. If you get the opportunity to view their video, which we'll upload onto week five of the Wiki, please do so it's great!

I'd now like to invite you all to continue the conversation that we started during the broadcast.

Cheers

Hi Folks

I was very intersted to hear about the consultation. I think that it is very important to have had the peer group being involved in the consultation. Bringing all the partners to discuss the results.

Do you think that young people are now more likely to be involved in having their voices heard?

Thanks again

The big test (as we discovered in Aberdeen Youth Forum ) is when the Youth Forum publicly criticises the Council (esp the Education Dept)... the workers may get their boss saying it's time they sorted out the youth forum! Needs strength to hold to self-determination

.Rob - Hi Dave - when that happens what do the workers do? Do they just fight their corner on a particular issue or do they take a broader approach with a view to changing attitudes within the council?

It depends... on how supportive your boss will be; on the attitudes of key councillors, and alot on how well the ground has been prepared with the Council in advance of such events; and ultimately depends on how strongly the young people stand up for themselves
