The EMPAIA Team is evaluating the usage of DICOMweb for parts of the API specification in the upcoming version 4 of the EMPAIA Platform. For this purpose we are currently preparing two EMPAIA Mod Proposals. The research is still ongoing and the incomplete drafts will be refined over time. We encourage you to engage in the discussion as early as possible, to ensure that all of your requirements and use cases are being considered. The proposed innovations elevate standardization, enhance the quality of AI integrations, for example in terms of explainability, and will further increase the acceptance of AI in clinical practice.
Please note: both EMP drafts reside in separate branches of the git repository. As soon as they are ready, the proposals will be merged into the main branch.

The EMPAIA Team has updated EMP-0102: Pixel Maps with a specification for a new Slidemap datatype. Support for the Slidemap datatype is currently being implemented as an API extension for version 3 of the EMPAIA Platform and is planned to be released in december. This development effort does not decide which of the implementation options presented in EMP-0102 will be supported in the upcoming version 4 of the EMPAIA Platform.

The EMPAIA Development Team has implemented new Pixelmaps data types as an addition to the existing v3 specifications of the EMPAIA Platform and APIs. The data types allow Apps to store pixel-wise raw data and to render the data as overlays on top of Whole Slide Images in an App UI. For more information please refer to the updated App Developer Docs and the EMPAIA Mod Proposal EMP-0102.
