Hello,

My name is Richard Boyce and I saw a presentation on the emotion
ontology at the ICBO. I am doing research that examines the safety and
effectiveness of antidepressants in depressed nursing home residents and
think that there might be some opportunities to use and/or contribute to
the emotion ontology as part of my projects. Do you plan to have mood
disorders represented in the ontology (perhaps in combination with
entities from other OBO ontologies)?

kind regards,
-Rich

Hi Rich,

we certainly plan to tackle mood disorders ontologically within the
auspices of the overarching Mental Functioning Ontology project, and
your use case is extremely interesting. Are you still around at ICBO?
We can try to fit in a quick discussion before the end of the
conference.

Best wishes,
Janna

Yes, my goal is to have everything relevant to psychiatry represented in
what will be called soon the Mental Functioning Ontology, time and resources
permitting. My current focus is on pain, however, because of a just started
NIH grant.

Some further reading that might be of interest besides the paper of which
you witnessed a presentation:

Ceusters W, Smith B. Foundations for a realist ontology of mental disease.

Ceusters W, Smith B. Referent Tracking for Treatment Optimisation in
Schizophrenic Patients. Journal of Web Semantics 4(3) 2006:229-36; Special
issue on semantic web for the life sciences

Copies are on my website:

There are also relevant presentations and copies of the slides.

Kind regards,

Werner
